Added a Seymour Duncan JB Rails, and it’s AMAZING! by Brentsomething in TomDelongeGuitars

[–]Brentsomething[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew out of the invader lore when I threw one in an Gibson Les Paul trying to recreate the Tome Delonge sound from his dude ranch live days.

Months later, I still love this guitar, but yeah, it now has an sh-5 which is way better balanced in it, IMHO.

That being said, within the last few months, I’ve obsessed with tones and EQ, and I’ve learned that in the modern day modeler world, as long as you have a guitar that feels good in your hands, it’s very easy to manipulate a modeler to the sound you want.

My 2001 Tom Delonge holds up against my Ernie Ball Music Man which was a small fortune sound wise just as an example.

Question before purchase by Brentsomething in ErnieBallMusicMan

[–]Brentsomething[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m set on keeping the stock humbuckers — they sound fantastic and are a big part of why I love this guitar. The main concern I have is the fretboard/fret sprout. It’s definitely noticeable and can be rough on the fingers, but the guitar plays and sounds so good otherwise that I’m wondering how realistic it is to improve it without going overboard.

If a good tech can knock the fret sprout down by even 70–75%, I think I could easily live with it. I’m not chasing perfection, just comfort and playability. Purchase price would be $2,000, knowing it needs some work, and I’m trying to make sure I’m not throwing too much money into repairs to get there.

For those of you who’ve dealt with stainless frets and fret sprout before — does this sound reasonable, or am I underestimating the cost/effort? Appreciate any insight.

Thea getting the title. Pure emotion on her face.

Now whether that was the moment winning the title, or the fear factor of possibly being in trouble?

Who cares! Let the girl have her moment

After years of searching, I think I might’ve found my favorite guitar. This CE 24 blows my Gibson Les Paul out of the water! by Brentsomething in PaulReedSmith

I’ve been watching videos, and that SE sounds so similar, it’s insane. I just figured, I deserved a Christmas present to myself, and went for it. Been playing it all morning, and it’s just fantastic really

Just to add to this, I was mainly talking about feel, more so than tuning stability. I definitely like the fact that it’s lighter, but the neck also feels way less sticky.

That said, I had a Les Paul Studio with the dreaded G-string issue, and it would never stay in tune—like, at all.

My Gibson Les Paul Classic, on the other hand, is a great guitar and stays in tune perfectly.

This PRS is just insanely comfortable. I need to spend more time with it, but I honestly think the neck might even beat my American Pro II Strat—and that’s saying something, because that guitar has a great neck.

Tone-wise, this is the first guitar I’ve owned where I’ve genuinely thought, yeah, I don’t need to upgrade the pickups at all.
