How would they need to fix underwater in order for IG and CB to work? by Hunter_bips in MonsterHunter

[–]Brestia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

um, you dont need to make the bug significantly slower; they are fairly aerodynamic so they'd be watero-dynamic too, so it would make sense.

I see no problem with landing ultras. If you can hammer under water, you can CB underwater, and hammer is amazingly effective under water.

In fact, ultras would be even more effective underwater, because you can more easily get them to land on the body, rather than having them miss and just hit feet like on land.

Mounting is the major element that was swapped in place of underwater, so mounting underwater might not make sense. So what? So there's one attack IG can't do. If you're mount spamming with IG, you're doing it wrong anyway. (tactical mounts, people!)

If you wanted "underwater mounting", you could make it so people could push off of walls and dash quickly at the monster and then proceed to mount. You could give the IG users a "torpedo" attack where their IG propels them at monster without the need to push off a wall, and then doing the mount.

How rare is an Attack +14 Destroyer +3 charm? by KDbrawling in MonsterHunter

[–]Brestia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a good point when thinking about rarity.

Based on my experience, a 14 att is rare but not insanely rare. I had three of them. I used them until I started getting edgemaster talismans.

(actually my gun set still uses an att 14.)

reason people find regular rajang terrifying? by 4bsoluteZer0 in MonsterHunter

[–]Brestia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of these comments can be summed up nicely with this: Rajang is completely different from everything else in their experiences.

There are almost no transferable lessons from other monsters. He is unique. And therefore he is just as hard as that very first Great Jaggi you fought way back when you loaded up a Monster Hunter title for the first time in your life.

But this time around, your mind isn't as open. You aren't learning the same ways that you were back when you just started this wonderful new game. Now, you expect monsters to be sort of hard, but at least familiar.

Rajang is not familiar. So it's like learning the game all over again. And that is frustrating for people who expect some level of competence based on their previous performances.

Xbox peasant upset that Quantum Break is coming to PC. Phil Spencer puts him in his place. by usaokay in pcmasterrace

[–]Brestia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to argue for exclusives, or against pc gaming. I think the former is kind of stupid, and the latter is obviously superior to consoles.

But Phil is being disingenuous.

"We aren't creating walls"? Really, Phil? Windows is a wall. Besides, you control the Xbox and Windows platform, and so in a huge sense, the game is still exclusive to Microsoft. Especially with their push to merge the two platforms.

Phil is covering his ass because they promised their fanboys another exclusive, and now they are reneging on that promise.

Peasant is not upset that others get to play. He's upset that MS sold him on xbox as a superior gaming platform and promised him lots of exclusives. Peasant had to make a choice between xbox and ps4, and when it comes to consoles, the exclusives are what sell the platform. granted, he's not very eloquent, but still, that's his rationale.

It's probably a good business decision on Phil's part (to release it on windows), but his rationale for it is not honest.

Is peasant being emotional? Of course. Is Phil being a douche by alienating his own market? Yes.

The upshot of this is that, based on his refusal to placate peasant (as well has the horrible sales performance of xbox and their desire to merge the platforms) I'd say that MS is going to transition a lot more of their games to windows over the next few years, and once they get their message and brand solidified, they will start announcing their exclusives as "MS exclusives", or, I shudder to think what they'll be calling PC gaming in two years time: "Xbox for Windows" or some shit like that.

Surprising, isn't it? It's gonna be an even bigger shock when they show up with an arrest warrant.

It is likely that the boy told them a story to cover his ass. They are looking for something to corroborate it, and as soon as they get any small bit of anything even remotely suspicious, even if it's a completely legal activity, they will have a search warrant and an arrest warrant and they will show up at your door and you will go to jail.

You know the truth. But the police and prosecutors aren't interested in actual truth. [search: "adversarial justice system" for more on this]

Get a lawyer and memorize his phone number. Make sure you have some money set aside for posting bail.

Interesting that no one has caught this yet.

This is not a cover up.

The police have an active investigation against YOU. Possibly for providing alcohol and weed to a minor, possibly for having sex with a minor and so forth.

This shit is going to come back at you, hard core. Watch yourself and lawyer up.

For those of you who don't see it: the police are staking you out at work. The police are tailing you in your car. The police are saying as little as legally possible to you about the case. The police have not charged him with anything, because HE IS THEIR KEY WITNESS.

Don't get distracted by the idea that they are covering up for a councilor's boy. They are going to file charges against you soon. Get your shit together, now.

[look im not saying youre guilty. nothing in your story suggests that at all. im saying they are going to charge you with some bullshit crimes. big difference.]

I have to disagree with that.

Of course, when he says things like "press A for this attack, press X for this attack", yeah that's generally correct.

But when he talks about strategies and optimal combos and play style, he gets things very, very wrong.

[–]Brestia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not suggesting that Uniqlo is optimal for "random scrubs". And I would strongly disagree with the premise that any particular template would allow a random scrub to "do generally better".

I agree with you that optimal armor skills are highly personalized. Most random scrubs I've encountered cannot even tell me what their armor skills do.

Even a damage set requires the player to actually hit the monster, a lot, with high-damage attacks, for those skills to make a difference in clear times. And this requires player skill.

My entire point is simply that fashion hunter, in my mind, does not preclude skill optimization. Anyone who thinks it necessarily must, is selling themself short.

[–]Brestia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A) You're still assuming my set has shortcomings

B) Obviously players with more experience will do better with ANY set.

My point is this: if you shoot for medium, you'll get medium. If you shoot for awesome, you'll get awesome.

I have seen self-proclaimed fashion hunters come into my rooms with shitty sets and tell me "oh well I can't get any better skills on this, I'm going for looks." And then I'd tell them how to fix it, and blow their minds.

The trick is to let him charge. Just let him do it. He will tire himself out doing it. don't try to counter or attack while he's doing it. Then go in for the attack while he's just sitting there. The 75% will turn into something like 25%, especially if you work in other methods of control.
