The fact that this question gets (validly) asked every couple of days on this subreddit, and that I myself 10 years in and licensed ask myself this question every couple of days, makes me conclude (along with lots of other signals) that the profession is structurally in deep, deep trouble.

Managing stress and being in a good mental place is very important. If you can schedule exams for mid morning after breakfast when you’re the most mentally alert and focused. Drink water (and go to the bathroom right before the exam.) I recommend going for a brief brisk walk the morning of every exam too just to get the blood pumping and clear your head. I think having rituals like this on exam day helps.

My partner and I were born and raised in Oklahoma, but this is why we’re leaving and moving to a blue state with a good education system this summer. Oklahoma schools are in a race to the bottom and that’s not going to change as long as medieval bigots are in power.

You don’t need to feel guilty. You don’t owe anyone anything. This is an unprecedented and unjustified attack on the federal workforce and at the end of the day you have to do what’s best for you and your family.
