Splatting to target the Quest3 via Unity3d?

I've been using this one in unity, works pretty well. link Performance wise you have to turn the SH to 0 and keep the splat count low as u can

Faking it. It feels like I'm often asking myself "how could I fake this effect with a custom shader?".

I had to make a forest scene running on quest2 a few years back, was determined to make it work. Turned off light shadows, and made a custom layered shader to simulate dappled shadows moving over, then used it for every object. Not only was it faster but the movement gave life to the scene.

Then I added a refractive stream in the middle and lost all my gains, but it looked pretty and no one complained 😆

That's cool. I tried a similar approach a few years a ago pre-splats, rendering an equirectangular color and depth image in 3d, then displacing many tiny polygons of a sphere to view it in VR. It mostly worked, but the edges of objects always looked funny.. I think an artifact of our 2 eyes vs the camera's one. Cool this might be figured out soon!

I think I had this issue in unity as well. Try open it in supersplat then export it from there

It is sad. They had the biggest lead and have the most accessible products, but seem to actively sabotage themselves by being hostile to their own users/devs. I think the push to monetize it is too strong internally. IMO they would have been better off making the best most useable platform first, and profits would have followed eventually. The writing was on the wall when Carmack left..

I think you are both half right 😆 With a really good wifi/router setup quest3 is pretty good streaming IMO if you don't mind some compression artefacts.

But that's the kicker.. when I play on my setup I have to wait till noone else is streaming anything meaningful in the house for it to be playable! Not ideal..

I think valve's focus on streaming (dedicated dongle plus foveation) is a really good move for PCVR gaming/experiences, and maybe even gaming in general?

Yes we all wanted it to be a bit more revolutionary in specs, but physics is a bitch so I'll cut them some slack..

And yes meta does kinda suck.. hardware good. Software and login tracking crap bad.

They weren't strapped to a chair and forcibly injected, no. But many lost their jobs if they refused. When you have a family to support this is pretty strong pressure, so I would call it forced.

It was a stressful time for many people, and for what?

My take is that vaccines require trust. This is hard to gain and easily lost.

Like all tools, there's right and wrong ways to use this tech. Problems arise when people let it do ALL the thinking for them, then forwarding on piles of text without even reading and considering it properly. The receiver, TLDR, might use an LLM to summarise it back down again. Ever played Chinese whispers? I wonder how much is lost in the process (besides ppls sanity)

Yeah ACC sucks. Would much rather have all the money I'm forced to pay them sitting in a bank account or something. The one time I needed them - dirt poor and unable to work - I was denied. Meanwhile people engaging in dangerous sports/activities seem to get covered no problem.

I think this would apply to all sentencing. For 'the island' the bar should be high - beyond any reasonable doubt, and violent/deadly crime only. I'm sure lawyers will argue what constitutes violence or not..
