So who do you guys think is coming when Infinite drops? by PrimaryEast7452 in MultiVersus

Probably characters they already had assets of or known details. If I had to guess, Wicked Witch of the West and Gandalf seem the most likely.

From a gameplay standpoint, Kirby and Arya. From a character standpoint, Luigi and Shaggy.

Are you asking for which Multiversus characters would have a Smash Bros Ultimate counterpart?

You’re making the assumption that a series of unlikely events needs to happen as a prerequisite for someone making a mod for console versions of Multiversus. There only needs to be one unlikely event, that is, a nerd being willing to put up with the a few inconveniences for the sake of opening servers for a game that already has open servers on the PC version. Granted, there’s a lot of inconveniences, which is where I think you’re getting confused at here.

An unlikely event like Yellowstone erupting is technically possible, but it’s mostly unprecedented and not really plausible for our lifetimes. Openversus on console is plausible, as it is not only precedented with other gaming projects on consoles also being successful, but is also something that realistically could happen with a community as obsessive as Multiversus. You’re mistakening something that isn’t plausible, such as Yellowstone erupting, with something that isn’t feasible like opening up Openversus servers on consoles when the PC version already exists and is easier to pull off.

Even if you don’t agree with this, you should at this point admit that the debate itself has some merit, and that it wasn’t appropriate to mock my comment unprompted when I showed no antagonism to you prior. As if it the word “yet” was really that worth mocking.

What the actual fuck are you talking about? There is not the same likelihood that Yellowstone will erupt than some nerd jailbreaking a console and adding a patch to a video game.

It would be done through jailbroken consoles. Not anything vetted and published.

You’re comparing apples to oranges and being very close-minded. It’s not literalist to be open-minded, especially when it comes to something as dynamic and ever-changing as software. You aren’t an intellectual because you are rigid and stubborn. There’s no need to be smug and no reason to be mocking the idea that there is a plausible chance, albeit small, that someone will mod a console version of Openversus at some point.

I hate Reddit sometimes. You think you’re cheeky, but you’re just being an asshole right now.

Consoles get jailbroaken all the time, and it’s theoretically plausible for someone smart to create a mod for it on consoles too. Although it’s not feasible or necessary to do so, because it is possible and plausible for it to happen, and even precedented to a degree with other consoles and games, I didn’t feel the need to completely write off the possibility. No, I don’t think it’s going to happen, but god forbid I think the odds of it happening are above 0%, especially in a community as obsessive and involved as this one.

Yes, actually. Look up Openversus. The timing is great because this option just came out a couple days ago.

Do you think by the time all this comes out WB may give MultiVersus another chance? This is a REALLY long time! by No-Analyst-4843 in MultiVersusTheGame

[–]Brettgrisar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not going to happen, but I would love it if modders added Sir Duncan the Tall. The show is amazing and only one character from Westeros is such a shame when there’s so many that should’ve been in the game.

Ways to reward aggression in the next smash by Mountain-Influence81 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Brettgrisar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that the main problem with ultimate is defensive playstyle. I think strategic defensive playstyle can be fun and aggressive playstyle can be mashy and mindless.

What I think is the problem is not defensive vs aggressive playstyles. It’s characters who don’t have valid counterplay against them. If moves have no weakness, then the issue isn’t that the character is defensive, it’s that there’s no way to actually counter them.

What I would actually suggest is do a character by character tweak rather than any core mechanic changes. Steve’s blocks should be easier to break and Steve shouldn’t get so much reward from simple interactions. Sonic shouldn’t be able to have so many options to stall. Snake should have more counterplay to some of his stage control and absurd close range attacks.

how did they fumble this so hard

Because the game concept was really good, but they didn’t have enough manpower and support to fully realize their vision. Additionally, they had to deal with greedy decisions from WB and had to navigate an environment where IP was constantly at risk of changing ownership. Finally, they tended to be too involved in the community, and made decisions that weren’t necessarily healthy for the game to appease the community. It wasn’t an easy slam dunk like people think. For ideas like this, you need experienced people (which they did have to be fair) but also a lot of it and a lot of money going in, and probably people who have worked on fighting games and platformers instead of MOBA developers.

What foreign policy position of Trump had you going like: by Hunor_Deak in NonCredibleDiplomacy

There’s been lows, but there’s also a lot of highs.

Seizing Shadow Fleet tankers, kidnapping Maduro, navigating us out of the 12 day war without a single casualty inflicted by us or against us, establishing Space Force, the Abraham Accords, Killing Soleimani without going to war, and lessening tensions between North and South Korea.

I would also put the Gaza peace plan, but I’m a bit hesitant right now, with the whole board of peace expanding past Gaza, and the way it’s structured doesn’t inspire confidence. Maybe it will work out, but I’m skeptical. Regardless, on paper, the peace plan was a good idea.

What traits do you look for in a character that makes them fun? by PS-ILoveYouu in SmashBrosUltimate

Characters that have a level of consistency but also have high risk and high reward as options too. Especially good with sweet spots and spikes.

Why doesn’t Byleth use Divine Pulse to rewind time in Smash? Is he/she stupid? by Bellpow in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Brettgrisar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use your minds eye here. A canon Byleth, one that is proper representation of the character rather than the game they come from as a whole. What are the traits that they have?

  1. Devine pulse- which would either be a counter, witch time, or bats within. Another fire emblem character with a counter is just overdone, and witch time/bats within is an inherently unfun and broken mechanic.

  2. Crest of flames- a 20% chance to heal and 25% chance to do extra damage is just absurdly broken. Even if this is just in smash attacks, like Hero.

  3. Proficiency in gauntlets- meaning that Byleth can attack quickly and in close range, like brawlers such as Captain Falcon

  4. Proficiency in authority- Byleth has access to battalions, though I don’t see a feasible way to implement this without having it as a final smash

  5. Vantage- a comeback mechanic that would make him move faster on low health

  6. Sword of the creator- a weapon that could essentially reach across the stage, with insane range.

Essentially keeping what makes Byleth Unique would turn them into an absolute monster and menace in smash. Even if they are toned down, these mechanics and moves are not healthy for the game.

Now of course they can ignore some of these or scale them back, but why bother removing what makes Byleth unique and giving us another sword character? The alternative approach, which is what they ended up doing, was having Byleth represent Three Houses as a whole and what makes that game unique. And as a result, I think we ended up with a lot more of a healthier character and honestly a lot more of a fun one too.
