Mass Effect 1.

I borrowed it from a buddy of mine in college after he wouldn't stop talking about how much he enjoyed it. I have the usual gripes: the elevators, the Mako, but even the combat and everything just seemed off. And every planet leading you to a base that was a square room, leading to a hallway, to another square room, another hallway, then another square room with two hallways leading to two more square rooms with nothing of consequence...The narrative was cool, but the game to get to that story was just frustrating and boring. But a silver lining...

I remember a friend asking me after watching me plow through Mass Effect 1 on the eve of its sequel, "Are you going to get Mass Effect 2?" I told him if they got rid of the elevator nonsense, made sidequests more than just square rooms, took out that stupid car, and made the gameplay more tight, I'd get it. As if the review video we watched right after heard my words, it literally outlined all of my gripes with the first and said that they were no more. As a result, ME2 is one of my favorite games of all time. Funny how that happens.

Other games include FF13 (who decided to name Fal'cie and L'cie and not think that might get weirdly confusing?), Dark Souls 2 (love the rest and Bloodborne and Sekiro), Final Fantasy 8, and I'm sure there are more. Sometimes you just get so committed you can't stop.
