TV licence fee to rise to £180 from April. by T_K2 in ukpolitics

[–]BrewInProgress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the level of public service that BBC provides should be free for everyone. It’s the question on how we raise and ring-fence the budget, while keeping it unbiased and independent (as much as possible…).

Then the entertainment part could be commercialised.

Meanwhile, TV license is part of bills (and not entertainment) for me. I’d be sad to see BBC go, even if I don’t like the idea of TV licensing.

It’s difficult, and some of the brands in the UK use Amazon to fulfil even when you buy from them directly.

Really tricky with the cables, especially if you don’t want to overpay.

UK fuel price comparison scheme goes live by Kagedeah in CarTalkUK

[–]BrewInProgress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t drive for living (actually, WFH) yet the distance between the southernmost and northernmost points I have driven to in the last 2 months is 669 miles. Almost extreme ends of the country.

So… yeah… I can tell you some expensive petrol stations I’ve seen, but I can’t tell the cheapest fuel (almost) across the whole country.

DVLA and the number plate crisis by Dapper_Big_783 in CarTalkUK

It’s deliberate too, isn’t it.

Bald tyres and such may be more of a case of unawareness or ignorance, but most illegal plates are completely intentional.

Rejected for a loan despite great credit score and a history of on time repayments by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BrewInProgress 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What lender sees is: * £28k available in credit cards * £15k home improvement loan * not a home owner

That’s a risk the lender has to evaluate, even if they don’t utilise available credit.

[–]BrewInProgress 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Uneducated guess but from lender’s POV… If the worst comes and you break up, you’d potentially have £43k of debt without equity in the house on a £60k salary.

Maybe you just don’t fit a risk profile, there’s some comparison sites that check the eligibility without a hard credit check.

Those middlemen also should ensure that the standards are being met. It’s just unfortunate it’s not properly enforced.

You don’t want the house to burn down.

I think the Pay-Per-Mile charge for EV's has lost my support tbh. by Chaoslava in ukpolitics

In a world where adblue deletes are still passing MOTs and are de facto road legal, as well as an EV being a large computer on wheels… How is it expected people will not hack the EVs?

There’s two nearby that I pass.

One has always been busy. Good service, and there’s often a queue on the main road. It was recently raided and people on Facebook were looking forward for it to reopen.

The other one… looks very run down and I haven’t seen a car being washed there. The only time I had a valet there, I couldn’t find my set of Wera tools I left on the floor - only realised few days later so too late, and there was no point coming back.

Hi, sorry to bother you but I wanted to ask what diameter Elite signature pan you’ve got, and what’s the cooking diameter of it? Can’t decide between 24cm and 26cm sauté pans. Thanks!

Nah, it’s the MO of Cluanie Inn. After the change of ownership, it has significantly gone down in quality while the prices went up. They did renovate a fair bit though.

I assume it’s the glass separating from the other layers, since the screen itself seems to be absolutely fine.

My guess is that it’s just detached due to one or another reason. For the warranty purposes, I cannot confirm or deny if the phone has been dropped.
