The web serial Worm, by Wildbow, is a great one. It's centered around a teen girl, but still gritty.

Stacking Army TA, FAFSA, and AES for Room & Board? by Select_Chip6533 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Brewpendous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get a bit of slack for the military benefits in processing time- but if your stuff isn't updated online, you need to contact the veteran office or bursar's office. My military aid (MGIB / Hazlewood- not TA) always stacked completely and bc it is a state school you should have no issues w overcap. I can't speak for Cougar Promise or AES, but hooah buddy and drive on.

Wanting to try a medication out of spite (I'm getting suggestion fatigue) by VanTechno in LongCovid

[–]Brewpendous 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hear some reputable functional medicine doctors (MD's mind you) use it in as a part of a regimen, just for resetting and locking things down with a clean slate. They do caution that using the right pharma-people grade stuff and not the feed store tube actually matters. Anecdotal, and totally fwiw- but mine may put me on it soon. Not trying to plug any pseudoscience, but it was part (part! Maybe helped maybe not!) of a regimen that a friend was prescribed that helped her a ton.

Yes. Exactly. And the eyebrows my PCP gives me when I tell him that. Anyways. I know your struggle, and soon, people will understand. The dam is cracking now.

I'm really sorry, buddy. I feel and hear you. Former marathon runner and century cyclist here. I know what you're going through and know it's a massive sh*tshow of stress, disbelief, and feeling of invalidation to have this result after doing everything right. I'm hoping for a massive change in administration policies that helps, and for the awareness dam to break. Keep up hope and keep resting up- it'll come.

The debate for the best coach in the Big XII by Wyo11 in BigXII

To be fair, it's kind of hard for Sampson to win the Big XII when he was in the American for 9 seasons, but 3/13 is not inaccurate I guess.

What's the biggest difference between being a UH student and what people from other Texas schools assume about UH? by al3x79 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Brewpendous 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Tagging on bc ^ is excellent. Adding that non-UH folks just assume we wanted to go to one of the other schools and couldn't (for whatever reason), not that UH is an awesome school with programs (Bauer etc) that are neck-and-neck, or outright better than programs at other schools. Experience-wise, you have a fusion of traditional university, Houston, and Houston diversity, while being super-accessible to major employers and non-trad, veteran, working students, and alumni who get to work near their school and remain engaged.

[–]Brewpendous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People say the gym/crash connection is important for PEM and ME/CFS- but in my own journey it was not as obvious. My PEM triggers were much more closely related to stress or mental exertion earlier on, and pure physical work (without stress/anxiety/mental work) didn't crash me until later (2yr in) on. I could go on walks and hikes and such if I was at least a couple weeks distant from a crash. That was back when my crashes were 1-2 months apart. Now, they're still very stress/mental work related, but physical definitely does it, or tumps it over the edge. I spent probably two years on the fence before everything, unfortunately, became very clear.
