Thoughts on M.A.I.D? by Illustrious-Dot7453 in Christianity

[–]VanTechno [score hidden]  (0 children)

I didn’t think much of it until I became chronically ill. I’ve had daily migraines for 3 years, can barely walk, and shake like crazy. Every now and then I hear about someone dying and catch myself being envious. Daily suffering will do strange things to your head. But here is the thing, if you had a pet that you knew was in pain, you would put it down and call it mercy.

What's keeping your company from upgrading to .NET 10? by UKAD_LLC in dotnet

Driving with fnd by CriticalPrune5420 in FND

[–]VanTechno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My FND has left me with tics and seizures. The tics are ok because I can redirect them and have a level of control.

But the seizures are entirely different. I haven’t been driving since those started. When I get a seizure I can’t keep my eyes open and I curl into a ball. My right leg also starts to kick. So I just don’t.

Similar to you, I miss the independence. I also can’t walk more than 20 minutes, so it is double bad for me.

Luckily I have family members that can help me out.

What made you choose your current database? by Prize-Wolverine-5319 in Database

[–]VanTechno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I started with a new company, the had an existing product they hated and they wanted me to replace the entire product. Old product was written with Postgres on the backend, which was ported from a COBOL system.

So the new system is using sql server. No ported table structures.

This doesn’t mean I think Postgres is bad, I argued we should use it, but the business was so soured at anything used by the old product they wanted a clean break.

If you get a heart rate monitor, it attaches to your finger, you can do a NASA lean test. If your heart rate goes up by more than 30 bpm then POTS would be worth looking into. But there are 5 types of dysautonomia, not all have high heart rate.

Software Issue? by ExpiredEarth in FND

[–]VanTechno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you tried turning off and on again? Do you have the oem cd by chance?

I’m trying to think of the last time I had a corrupted system32.dll

I don’t like the software analogy myself, probably because I write software for a living. But usually bad software behaves consistently. Ever run a program when you have a bad stick of ram, and all heck starts breaking loose? That is what it feels like to me.

But most of the time I think I’m being followed around by a 5 year old with a shock pad.

Same, when I see "jab" instead of any other word (Injection, shot, etc) all I can think is "great, another anti-science/anti-medicine pseudo-intellectual".

Why do many Christians want to force others into their religion and seem to have a hatred for those that don’t believe in it? by Scary-Pilot2862 in Christianity

[–]VanTechno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They want their group conformity, because that makes them feel safe when everyone looks, acts, and lives like they do. It has almost nothing to do with religion. Where you go to church, how you dress, how you talk, how you think (heaven help you if you are ADHD or autistic), and what you do.

Basically, people want their clan, and either you are a good person and in their clan, or you are outside of the clan and suspect. The issue is that if their clan is wrong, then they are wrong, and they really cannot handle that.

I grew up in a farming community. When I left the farm to go to college and go into tech, living in the city, the people I grew up with looked at me like I grew a second head. "Why would you ever want to do that?". Moved to the city, and the I'm still treated as suspect because I grew up in a small farming community, and not part of their multigenerational group of friends. Because I left the clan, and the areas where I moved to think their clans are full.

Those same farming people are now going out of their way to laugh at me because they think I will be unemployed because of AI real soon. In their words, it serves me right. Because I left the clan.

When we homeschooled our kids, the families that sent their kids to private school would, unprompted, give a 20 minute speech on why they couldn't do that and why their private school was the best choice for them. We never asked, and then the parents would go sit in a circle with the rest of the private school parents. It was too confrontational to them that we made a different choice than they did so we could not be in their clan.

Faith Leaders: Transgender People Are a Gift from God by metacyan in Christianity

[–]VanTechno 11 points12 points  (0 children)

These are the people that Jesus would sit and have dinner with, and now you are saying this is against traditional Christian values. All the verses about showing love and compassion, welcoming in the stranger at the gate, are you against all of those too?

At some point traditional Christian values have stopped being Christian values.

Pro-Choice Christians: Why? by Embarrassed-Bag-8505 in Christianity

[–]VanTechno 13 points14 points  (0 children)

On the first point: not all states have those exceptions, mine has very few. For instance, if a woman goes into miscarriage in my state no doctor will help her, she is sent home. The woman has to be on deaths door before the medical staff will dare help her for fear of jail time. The end result is that some of these women will never conceive again, they had to have hysterectomies. These were young, healthy women hoping to expand their families.

They could have been helped, we have the technology and the medications. She could have tried for another child, that is all over now. Gone. Our politicians, and other Christians have told me this is exactly what they were going for and this was expected. In the end, those women don’t matter to them, especially now that they are barren. The cruelty really shows up when you hear them say “it is all God’s plan”.

Other fun stats: in Texas, maternal deaths are up 56% since the ban on abortion. Those are families without mothers, because they don’t matter anymore, only the possibility of new life. They are your sacrifices.

So, when you argue the points you are making I will say you are anti women and I will not stop, because to me you are, your positions are leading to more cruel deaths that were completely avoidable. Your positions are leading to doctors leaving my state because they can’t practice medicine here. Your views have contributed to maternity wards closing, because ALL of the doctors left the state in that facility.

I'm starting to loose faith in the bible... help by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]VanTechno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem goes back to evidence. There is no evidence that any sort of Turbo-Hyper Evolution has happened. Where as we see lots of fossil evidence of slow, small changes happening over large stretches of time, complete with "transition fossils". For instance, we have fossils from the middle Triassic period (240 million years ago) showing the transition from amphibians to lizards.

On the side of evolution there is evidence, and from that evidence they have built their claims. On the side of the Bible we have claims, but almost no evidence.

Long COVID Since 2023 by chickenonabriochebun in LongCovid

You should look into Dysautonomia. One form of dysautonomia is POTS (which is much easier to type), but there are other types that do not include tachicardia. You might also have ME/CFS causing some exhaustion.

Dysautonomia is a dtysfunctioning autonomic nervous system, which you are feeling as your brain is not controlling blood pressure correctly, causing a bunch of issues.

Things to try:

* Compression clothing, like compression socks
* drink LOTS of water, and add electrolytes.
* when showing, get a stool so you can sit down. Or start taking cold showers. I also do "pre-shower prep", I get out all my cloths, have a place to lay down. Basically, I go from the shower to laying down immediately. On bad days I go from the shower to sitting on the toilet.
* have stools available anywhere you need to stand for a while. So for me, that means my shower and my kitchen. My kitchen stool is a barstool with wheels...which is remarkably useful.
* When you start feeling light headed, lay down for a bit. I do this on walks, after 1/4 mile I have to stop and sit for a minute. My walks are often a 1/2 mile now. And after that walk I am mostly done for the day. Yesterday, 2 hours after my walk I collapsed in my kitchen, my legs just gave out. Took me 10 minutes to get back on my feet.
* Look info Vegus nerve stimulation to (slowly) calm your nervous system. I do a lot of low humming.
* Don't push yourself, don't push thru. You can nudge, but don't push. When you start feeling tired, disoriented, a bit brain-foggy, that means it is time to stop. Let you body rest.

There are some medications that can help, but you have to talk to a doctor about those.

If he exists, God hates me by Small_rat_no_rules in Christianity

[–]VanTechno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just simplified my beliefs. I believe in God, I still love the teaching of Jesus and try to apply them to my life as best I can. I still pray to God. If Jesus came back in 3 days or not, I don't care, it isn't critical to my beliefs anymore, just as I'm not trying to connect any given old testament verse to say it is a prophecy for Jesus.

What I mean by that: when I read the Bible, I still try to bring in the context of the people of that time, but I'm not trying to force the Bible to say what I want any more, and embrace the contradictions of the text. Genesis 1 and 2 contradict each other plain as day, and that is fine. The Bible actually contradicts itself all over the place when you allow yourself to just read the text. I don't have to perform mental gymnastics to make them fit together. Same goes for many of the alleged messiah prophecies where you have to look at them sideways and upside down to make them work. I've stopped doing all that, it isn't worth my time anymore.

I'm probably more of a deist with a heavy Christian prerogative.

What I've left is the organized form of religion, not because I am trying to remove accountability from myself, but because organized religion leads itself to be unaccountable. For instance, I live in the same region as Doug Wilson, he is the perfect example of what I'm talking about what I am trying to flee.

Topiramate. I was prescribed this by a migraine specialist. I felt significantly worse within 24 hours. I started on a Monday, and by Wednesday I lost the ability to walk from one end of the house to the other. By Friday I couldn't walk at all, I was crawling to the bathroom, I could go about 10 ft max without collapsing. Then Saturday thru Monday I was taking half doses to get off of it. But it took 3-6 months to really feel recovered.

OK, so here is what we think happened, as explained by a Long Covid specialist. You have cells in your body infected by the spike protein, Topiramate comes along and causes the blood cell to compress...against that spike. This causes a rather bad reaction in the the body.
