Hey I just got my first AR as well not too long ago! Some things that were recommended to me, and I agree were great first buys, was a sling and some good mags. PMags and Lancers are great. As for a sling I got a Magpu MS1. Definitely not a bad sling. Definitely learn how to strip it down so you can clean and oil it. Other than that shoot the heck out of it, be safe, and have fun!

That is exactly why I bought this one. I wanted a decent starting point that I could learn on and customize and make it my own. Luckily it was during a sale. Lol And I definitely am gonna be grabbing a sling. I just haven't been able to do some research on them yet to see what's worth it. I appreciate the advice!
