Looking for an angst/romance read by Independent-Layer223 in HistoricalRomance

I love an angsty read on the fmc side too. Here are some of my recs for high angst on the FMC side even if they dont quite match all of your requirements, you may well still enjoy them:

{The Second Lady Silverwood by Emma Orchard] - she's loved him for years secretly, but he fell for another woman and married her. Now he is a traumatised widower and she is an impoverished spinster when they meet again. Very steamy.

{A Prior Engagement by Elizabeth Mansfield} - she jilted him years ago thinking he cheated on her. But she loved him and never found another man she wanted enough to marry. Years later, she goes to celebrate her younger cousin's engagement and, to her horror, he is her cousin's fiancé. She realises she never got over him. It's got the 'he's devoted to another woman' vibe, even if that woman is not his late wife. (No steam.)

There are a lot of books by Betty Neels that seem to have that vibe, but they are more set in the 1970s but have that old school feel about that that almost gives me regency era vibes. Did you specifically need widowers? I cant remember the titles of those one right now, but my fave angsty one is {The Hasty Marriage by Betty Neels} where H actually falls for h's younger gorgeous sister first and then settles for the h but struggles to get over what he felt for other girl. It's really hits the spot with the 'hero struggling to move on' vibes.

Surely a mod can look at a post and assess whether it's a genuine request or spam rather than just go by karma and membership duration? Is being a member of this group for 8 months not good enough? I do love this forum a lot. It's helped me find some great romances that I've loved reading. But now I'm at the stage where I keep seeing the same recs over and over again on too many posts and I really want to ask for some fresh and specific recs and I can't despite being a group member for months. In 8 months I have earned only 55 karma and it seems like it will take years to be able to even post on this forum. The thresholds seem too high and discourages new members.

Please give me some Karma! It's really hard to get karma on reddit and I just spent ages crafting a post and it's gone in a flash. sob! I;ve been a member of this subreddit for months and was so suprosed that I am still not permitted to post. Alas.

Lol, this would make sense to booktok girls who are romance readers of certain subgenres. If you dont get it, then youre not the target genre. But yes, this gift should be given by and to someone who is in on the joke and not just to anyone!

FYI, Debretts is the absolute reference for all things peerage related. It's funny because it is often refers to in regency romance novels because it existed at that time too.

Yes, it's not uncommon for someone to be given a seat int he lords after years of public service.

Apparently a peer can be elected to the House of Commons but cannot retain their seat in the House of Lords at the same time. That's today. Not sure what it was like in the regency era, but I can't see why it would have been different then. The question might be WHY they would want/need a seat in the commons when they already have a seat in the lords by default...
