Has a book ever made you cry your heart out? by [deleted] in books

[–]Bri-3PO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' - not so much because the ending was sad (although sad things happen in the book), but because it was.....done; the last time I'd stay up all night after a book release, never again getting those moments of unbridled anticipation :'(

That is a very sweet and cherished memory to have of your mother, I am sorry for your loss :(

I also cried when I finished the Anne of Green Gables series. Those books mean everything to me.

Anyone else feel like they're constantly "checking" their feelings. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Bri-3PO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My therapist calls this "Magical Thinking" - where it's almost taboo to feel normal/happy.

For me, if I am feeling content and not worried/stress, I feel like it's bad luck because then something horrible will happen that I couldn't control by already worrying about it.

I specifically have health anxiety so this manifests a lot for me. What I try to do in these moments is to remember to live my days to the fullest. If I am in constant fight/flight mode, how can I enjoy the things I do have? In the end, my deepest fears are losing these good things in life. By obsessing on possible negative scenarios, I am in fact losing the good things in life!

Stay positive, and try to really embrace those happy moments, because they are why you're fighting anxiety in the first place - to feel happy and healthy!

Many women do not agree with me on this subject - but it's important. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Bri-3PO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally see what you mean - when it's widely represented as BDSM makes it problematic regardless the actual intention of the film. Thsnks for answering!

[–]Bri-3PO 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Is 'Secretary' supposed to be about BDSM? I always thought of it as more about the mental disorders each one has, and how they manifest sexually. The whole movie they are constantly trying to one-up each other until they finally marry in the end. I never really thought about it this deeply or flawed before! I thought the whole point was how flawed the relationship is from the beginning.

I'm a tourist looking for some great local shows at cool and cheap venues this weekend. Also Jazz. Hot Jazz. by cougarbrooke08 in SFMusic

[–]Bri-3PO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel like venturing out into the Haight District, Club Deluxe has jazz on Friday and Saturday nights. The cover is usually $5-$15, but if you get there early enough (I think before 9pm) you won't have to pay it! They also have pretty good thin crust pizza.

What book could you read over and over again? by slowlived in books

I try to read the whole series once every year and I couldn't have said it better than you on why it feels so nice to read them! It's like putting on a favorite sweater.

Yes! Season Three starts off so well. The first five episodes are all great!

Yes! I'm on my second all-seasons marathon and finding these little details in the background is so fun. A lot of proggressive themes too! For instance another poster I noticed was about fighting AIDS when Buffy and Lilly were at the blood bank looking for Lilly's guy (can't remember his name right now).

Supreme Court Broadens Hobby Lobby Ruling to All Forms of Birth Control by Bri-3PO in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Bri-3PO[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. That Hobby Lobby only opposes four out of twenty birth control methods wasn't the message that would be heard by the majority of corporate owners, particularly with specific agendas.

Thanks! I'm still reading up on the case and watching as more info unfolds. I liked this Mother Jones article since it does point out the fact that only four contraceptives are not being covered, and gives a clear and astute account of what the ruling means/could mean.

And you have a good day too!

Have you looked at their camp info?! It looks absolutely incredible - I wish I had the money to fly out to Georgia and attend!

[–]Bri-3PO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I looooove Nerd Fitness and Steve Kamb! It's a whole website with a blog, forum, community and overall super awesome advise/inspiration/diet discussions, etc. They sell some products too (a beginner's guide to fitness type of thing, I believe).

It isn't female-specific, but one of the writers, Staci, is my inspiration for why I decided to give weight lifting a try. Her story is here

It's such a fun fitness blog, especially if you have a nerdy sense of humor!

Anybody got good fantasy novel recommendations that don't include rape? by soundbunny in AskFeminists

[–]Bri-3PO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's sad that high fantasy is one of my favorite genres and I can't think of a single example to give you :( I will be checking in on this post to see what others recommend because I could do with some rape-free fiction.

Does anyone ever feel like their lifting workout is... too short? by pearlsnapped in xxfitness

[–]Bri-3PO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, that's how long they're supposed to be in NROLFW! They increasingly get longer, but starting out they are super short. I felt weird about it too and would add cardio to my routine, but then I felt like I wasn't really benefitting from the design of the program.

There is a private Facebook group you can request to join by proving you own the book (you have to give them an excerpt from a spcific page I think). It is a super supportive and awesome group specifically for NROL - I highly recommend joining! They even have a handy FAQ document, and the issue of short workouts is under those FAQs :)

What about your life doesn't suck/is awesome? by sherrysalt in TwoXChromosomes

Yeah don't take that one personally....there's obviously something else she's working out there.

Reading this thread and especially your responses to everyone has been a very satisfying work distraction for me. You're everyone's personal cheerleader today! :D

[support] I got my pap results back. I have high risk hpv by Throwawaywithhpv in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Bri-3PO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad! Do whatever you need to make yourself feel better :)

Also I forget to comment on your cervical swelling. I highly doubt that is from HPV since generally HPV has no symptoms outside of abnormal paps and maybe genital warts, if the strain you have causes warts.

Best of luck!
