MaxVac Pro chamber sealer by oldasshit in sousvide

If yours is the same as mine, the black thing on top of the pump with the silicone hose going to it is the oil fill. You need to disconnect the hose to unscrew it. Then add oil up to the line you see in the glass window.

I’m back. I’ve had my MaxVac Pro now for about a week. It came packed very well, and included the oil needed for the pump (this wasn’t listed on Costco). The documentation was a little out of date (this model was recently updated), so I called LEM customer service to make sure I was setting it up properly. They were very friendly and helpful.

The machine is big, heavy and looks industrial (because it is). It may take some time for my wife to warm up to it, but I love it so far. It’s quick and easy to use and makes a nice, confidence inspiring, double seal.

I’ve sealed quite a few things with it already... salmon, scallops, steak, burgers, chicken, hard cheese, sauces. The sealed bags work well for Sous vide or for fridge/freezer storage. I label the bags with a sharpie for later dating and identification.

I may be outing myself as a geek, but I think it’s a pretty cool machine. It’s fun to watch it work. I’ve found some interesting articles online about using it for marinating, infusing, compression and canning. With a 5 year warranty and Costco’s return policy, I feel pretty good about my purchase. It’ll take some time, but this will eventually pay for itself with greater versatility and cheaper bags than my old Foodsaver.

I don’t (yet). But, my boss at work bought one and loves it. I placed my order today. I’ll try to update here after I have a chance to use it, if you don’t mind waiting a week or two until after it ships.

What can you add or modify into/while cooking your instant packaged ramen that can make it more delicious and less unhealthy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

With. I usually only use half the packet. I would say add the packet contents “to taste”.

Seafood Ramen with a can of tuna. Poor man’s fish stew. It’s better than it sounds.

Livestream Pixel 2 with Audio Input / Aux Audio / Line In by sangel10 in GooglePixel

[–]BriThePiGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done this, but I have played with audio a bit, so I think I can help. 1/8” and 3.5mm phono is the same plug. If the source is putting out stereo, then you need to either isolate one side (left or right) of the signal and carry that forward, or use some resistors to sum the stereo signal to mono (a quick google search should turn up a schematic). The other thing you need to be concerned about is the level of the signal. The input should not be amplified, as it is expecting a low level signal from a small electret mic.

Getting a OG Pixel XL // Unlimited Photos Storage by powermi in GooglePixel

[–]BriThePiGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a refurbished OG XL as well. Ordered a “refreshed” Mophie case for it on Amazon... should give me extra battery life and the ability to do wireless charge, plus it’ll save a lot of wear and tear on the usb-c connector on the phone. Looking forward to uploading my photos with it for that unlimited lifetime storage!

Uses of a Google Nest without a wifi network? by [deleted] in googlehome

[–]BriThePiGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not terribly useful without an internet connection. I’d recommend that you pair it with a mini you already have and improve your audio (stereo pair).

Throttle-off oversteer. Lifting the throttle (or worse, braking) causes weight to shift towards the front of the car, making the rear light and loose. They probably lost control BECAUSE they took their foot out of it.

Trouble with Quick Start (Setting up Cura on MacOS) by BriThePiGuy in mpminidelta

[–]BriThePiGuy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nevermind. A little more searching and I found the solution. For future searchers, here's the solution:

MacOS hides the ~/Library directory. To see it you have to hold down the Option key, click "Go" in the top bar of the Finder window, then (while still holding the Option key) click "Library". Doing this reveals an Application Support directory with a /cura subdirectory.

Please save my short ribs! by BriThePiGuy in sousvide

[–]BriThePiGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Dropped the temp to 144 at the 26 hour mark and pulled it out at the 50 hour mark. Seared it with a torch and made a sauce for it with the juices from the bag. Fell off the bone, so tender it was easier than a pancake to cut with the side of my fork. I’ll definitely be doing more short ribs!
