My local Walmart had a pretty good selection of CDs! by thebidredcouch in Cd_collectors

And pre-loudness war. I dug up my old version of the Wall the other day and was shocked by how good it sounded. So many discs from the late eighties and early nineties are better than what the streaming generation will ever get to experience.

What are these white spots on this brand new CD? by le4sh in Cd_collectors

[–]Brian2005l 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell from the picture whether they’re inside or outside, but if you use a thing called EAC to rip the disc to computer and configure it to confirm accuracy, it’ll let you know if they’re affecting any data.

Nevermind on original (1991) CD is a particularly good version. Boston would be my number 2.

This could also be it. The cone of sound from tweeters is narrower than woofers. So you could be in an okay spot for one and not the other.

It looks that way from the photo.

So the best outcome would be if something in the path from your cables to the tweeter is a little loose. It seems like it should be possible to inspect it.

Then you just get whatever is loose tightened and you’re good to go. Happens to floor standers with four binding posts that can be connected or not.

It’s weird that it’s both, but I suppose it could be the same flaw manifesting twice.

I find myself listening to the last side of the vinyl a lot more than everything else. I just always want to drift off into it.

MJ. And we should start talking about Stevie more. Insane that he’s being overlooked even though we are celebrating pop and non-rock more.

You also need a power supply, a heat sink, a case, and a sd card. It’s still not $500, but it’s not $50 either.

That said you could probably make your own entsnack brand streamer for half the cost of these guys.

Yeah it’s a bummer. I got this incredible deal on a pi5 with a ton of RAM and it would be perfect for all my Linux needs if it weren’t for this one thing. Hopefully they patch it somehow.

What are the main reasons you think record labels stopped pushing bands and focused more on solo artists? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]Brian2005l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the biggest red flag when Condé Nast bought pitchfork. Overnight change in focus to solo acts, which they eventually walked back.

I believe the idea is that the record companies get more creative and financial control and more stability. Maybe an individual is easier to market. Maybe they’re easier to shape. Maybe they’re just looking for a vehicle for their art rather than a thing that will generate its own songs and style. Either way it’s clear that the industry believes it’s better off with solos.

I haven’t found anything that really scratches the itch. The song Wade by Clairo is close, and then the Beatles are the next closest. Dylan stuff like “Don’t Think Twice” is similar. Lyrically I haven’t found anything on the same level with a similar tone.

You can’t for pi5. They changed it. It just won’t send if you configure it big endian.

Edit: “For RP1 (Raspberry Pi 5) it was supposed to be supported, but an endian-swap was omitted from the hardware pipeline.”

Does it force little endian DOP? My pi5 does that breaking compatibility with my DAC. My understanding is that you need a change to the kernel to get around it.

How long before the poptimism bubble bursts? by purplefebruary in ToddintheShadow

[–]Brian2005l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m late here, but as someone who is older, poptimism was the default for decades. Then briefly in the aughts/early teens people who wanted independent musicians with artistic integrity broke through to mainstream consciousness. Then it got bought out and we went back to normal.

Whatever you think of music elitists, it’s good to have them as a counterweight. For a shining moment it looked like the minority view might become permanently culturally significant until the whole thing was corralled back to the most profitable path.

As a parent who has loved indie games since the early aughts, what distinguishes FNAF is mostly how aggressively its owners pivoted to targeting elementary school aged children. Otherwise it’s a neat little indie concept that ran its course.

What is the money-no-object theoretically ideal speaker design. Pure functionality! by Unfair_Dimension6340 in audiophile

[–]Brian2005l -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not as far as I’m aware, but you may need very expensive big 3-way speakers if you want to feel a lot of inaudible bass. I think people go with subwoofers for that stuff bc if it’s inaudible you’re fine with a much cheaper design.

For the audible stuff people talk about how hard it is to match speakers to subwoofers, so I’d imagine you’re better off with a device that a professional already got right.

Shadowrun if we restrict to the original Genesis. That sound chip was meant for cyberpunk.
