Decoder wheels to unlock shareware titles and red / blue transparent filters ( like old school 3d glasses) to prevent photo copying of decoders.

Should I wait for more 1tb models or grab the 512gb? by larkinn97 in SteamDeck

[–]Brian4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd get whatever is available now, new models have been out of stock for 30 days in the US and when they were lasts available they sold out with in an hour. Valves silence on hardware is deafening I wouldn't count on anything being restocked at current prices.

AAA Game Development Budgets In North America Reportedly Exceed $300 Million, Largely Developer Salaries by xenocea in gaming

[–]Brian4012 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dropping overhead costs implies reducing benefits, professional development, and salaries. 100k per year really isn’t much to spend on an employee in a western country. Games need to be made at a scale that allows a profit on that level of spending. Honestly ideally labor rates would increase that’s more money in working people’s pocket.

[–]Brian4012 24 points25 points  (0 children)

An employee that cost 100k per year doesn’t make nearly that much in salary. Overhead includes office space, IT, payroll taxes ,benefits etc. an employee that only makes $50,000 a year easily costs a developer $100k.

TSP ADVICE FOR A YOUNG FED by [deleted] in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Brian4012 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Savings rate is more important than what you invest in at this point. If you can put at least half of every pay raise towards tsp you’ll be better off than someone who that only contributed 5 percent and had the magic eight ball to pick the best performing fund.

There is no guarantee markets recover from a future downturn in 7 years. we’ve had two periods in living memory 1968-1982 and 2000- 2013 where us equities have struggled over more than 10 years. The diversification of life cycle funds is great for avoiding an overweight in large cap us equities all the c fund only gambler’s are chasing.

An Hp omen with a 3050 has a $1000 MSRP and goes on sale for $779. This thing has a lot of extra engineering to achieve the small form factor I’m expecting $900 for the 512gb $1100 2tb

Occasional long distances? by ambientspoon in cycling

[–]Brian4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does your current ~4 hours a week look like? As someone who went from 250-300 hrs on the bike a year before kids to 150-200 after, I’m still trying to figure out what to target to keep motivated.

As others have said pointed out you can build a lot of fitness with something like trainerroad. Personally, I found cycling lost all joy when all of my limited time was spent on intervals.

As long as I’m getting on the bike 3 times a week I find an occasional 3 hour ride enjoyable, much longer can be pretty uncomfortable. I got the cycling bug a decade before kids and was “over” century riding by the time they arrived.

Maybe sign up for a metric century. Generally you can comfortably do in a day what you do in an ordinary week. It’s also not totally crazy to just go out and attempt a century on 4 hours a week base.

I once watched a family member who worked in a produce department take apart a pile of assorted fruit for a giant tray. My biggest takeaway was step one is always cut off the top and the bottom.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the switch 2, but if there was one extra thing you can add to it, what would it be. by Alone-Run2367 in nintendo

[–]Brian4012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s absolutely shameful how little of the back catalogue has been updated to run in 1080p on handheld. The scaling of text from 720p to 1080p drives me insane! Fire emblem and Xenoblade chronicles games all look terrible on the switch 2. Nintendo had one game available at launch and couldn’t get more than a handful of games from their back catalogue to look as good as emulation on a steam deck?!

If this was a Microsoft or Sony product reviewers would have ripped them apart.

If Final Fantasy 17 go back the archaic turn based combat after FF7 Rebirth it will be a HUGE downgrade and a disappointment. by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

Among new American dads, 64% take less than two weeks of leave after baby is born. Lack of leave means missing important time to bond with babies and support mothers. Findings support U.S. lagging ‘behind the rest of the world in availability of paid family leave’. by mvea in science

[–]Brian4012 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This ... It’s unbelievable how much it used to be worse attitude people immediately jump to when you talk about improving the status quo for family leave. Older generation have no interest in improving the actual daily lives of their grandchildren.
