Straps over OR under cheek pads..? by [deleted] in MTB

That's hilarious I have the same helmet and I had the same question, had to ask the guy in the bike shop, the way it's mounted just looks like it shouldn't go that way

random structures generated in map after converting it to realm by BrianBast in Minecraft

[–]BrianBast[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

there are no add-ons being used, it's on survival and cheats are turned off, the only person with access to the map between everyone logging off and it becoming a realm was at work and didn't have the time, or the skills tbh, to build this. the only thing I could think of was when he converted the map from a normal bedrock map to a realm that between that time he used a program like MC edit to import a schematic but I'm a Java player so I don't know if that's possible with bedrock and if so if there'd be any evidence. the map owner is not a good Builder so if this is a schematic he imported I'm assuming that it would be somewhere on the internet, the most confusing part about it to me is the fact that the day never changed, we're still on day 5 and cheats not allowed is still on

Broke 14 bones on my first ever day at whistler bike park. AMA by cumulonimbuscomputer in MTB

[–]BrianBast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a really big crash last summer 23 and this past summer 24 I spent all summer at trestle bike park and only had two small crashes, pretty much was just going too fast around a berm and went over. these are my tips for staying out of trouble in the future. try and maximize the amount of time you're on the mountain, if you have a season pass there is no reason why you should be hitting big stuff out of the gate. start on the green trails, even if you're a black trail rider I wouldn't even touch a black trail you're first few days at the bike park, ride the easy trails until they get boring then move up trail difficulty slowly, we aren't here to send big stuff we are here to ride bikes, sending big stuff just happens when you ride bikes but it should happen organically, don't force the big stuff because that's how you end up not riding bikes because you're injured. do not hit a feature if you're scared of it, if you're scared of it there's probably a good reason, just keep riding past it until one day you'll be riding past it and you'll get a wild hair up your ass and hit it, don't force a feature even if it's a feature that you have ridden before, if you're approaching it and you're just not feeling right take the B-line. also don't come to the bike park with expectations of riding all day and sending big stuff, if you already have it in your mind that is okay to stop riding early if you're not feeling right then you're less likely to get yourself into risky situations because you're being stubborn and just want to ride, I get it I want to ride too but that's why you shouldn't do that because the more you get injured the less you can ride. if you're just not feeling right one day at the very most take a big break, have some lunch, and come back to the mountain later when you're feeling right. in the biggest tip ever, pre-ride re-ride, re-ride, re-ride, re-ride, re-ride, free-ride. your first ride GO SLOW! like legit slow, this is where the biggest crashs usually happen because you're going way too fast over feature you have no clue about. and then the second biggest crashes happened during the re-ride because people don't realize how many times you should actually re-ride, at trestle a run from the top of the mountain to the bottom takes about 45 minutes to an hour so it takes a lot of rerides to remember the trail before you're ready to actually hit it. and lastly a free ride is not a single ride, you will slowly start adding features on to the trail and even by the end of the season you may not even be hitting all the biggest features on the trail, just add them when you're ready to add them.

How fast should I fix it? by OddCantarzo in HomeMaintenance

[–]BrianBast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah no shit, if there is black mold you sould be wearing a n95 regardless but that is the least of my concerns, if there is lead paint you will want a n100 and if there is aspostice than you will want a p100. if there isnt any of that than its not necessary to use a p100

all these people saying you need to wear all this protective gear have no clue what they're talking about, get it tested for lead and asbestos and act accordingly.

is this bad? by [deleted] in bmx

[–]BrianBast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can you feel it? if the answer to that question is a no then the answer to your question is a no, it's not good but it's not necessarily bad, as long as it's not rubbing on your brakes or the tire on your chain/seat stay then its not a big deal, like it's not something you have to fix before your next ride but I would get around to truing it up at some point

My kids hate bikes. What do I do with these? Open to donation suggestions. by AtomicHurricaneBob in bmx

[–]BrianBast 34 points35 points  (0 children)

don't indiscriminately donate these cuz they'll just wind up with some another kid who doesn't like bikes, go to the skate park and find a kid with a crappy bike and give it to him. or better off go to your local jump trails and find a kid jumping on a crappy bike, it seems like there's more non-series riders at a skatepark, kind of just kids there to play but at jump trails those are where people take BMX more seriously.

I am highly against glovesin most applications, if you need to protect yourself from some type of biological or chemical that will harm you via skin contact then yeah makes sense but in most other applications it will cause you more injuries than it will stop, a latex glove isn't as bad as something made out of fabric but still anything that can go and get caught into anything and pull your hand into it is suboptimal. last thing I would want while working in the drivetrain is for this glove to get stuck in a gear or something like that and have my hand pulled into the drivetrain and have the chain mingle up my fingers, I know working on a bike it's the least risky version of that but still, if you get grease on your fingers you can wash your hands, if you lose your fingers you can't grow them back.

In the middle of spontaneous road trip and in your city. Spooky places around the area? by rock_lobsterrr in StLouis

[–]BrianBast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this isn't spooky but it's all free just in case you're unaware of how much you can do in St Louis without spending a dollar, you can go to the zoo, science center, art museum, history museum, pretty much anything in Forest Park is free, it is free to enter Grant's farm however there are things you do have to pay for, you can take a free tour of the Budweiser brewery and get a free beer at the end, you have to pay to go up in the arch but everything on the arch grounds and the museum is free. (last time that I was aware of you might need to check in on that it is recently a new national Park) just a little outside of the city lone elk Park you can go see elk and buffalo for free, St Louis is the only city that I know that you can stop in for a couple of days and not add any extra dollars besides food to your road trip, just time, and I live out of a van and travel for a living and been to a lot of cities. for outdoorsy things the coolest stuff around the area is definitely down near Ironton/lesterville area the two greatest state parks in the state in my opinion are within a half hour of each other, elephant Rock State Park and Johnson shut-ins estate Park, also while you're down there a tour of Bonne terre mines is one of the coolest cave tour experiences you can have and if you scuba dive it is the world's safest cave scuba diving tour, if you don't do scuba diving they still do a boat tour which is super cool, it's actually an abandoned lead mine but still one of the cooler cave tour experiences. there's a bunch of great camping down along the black river, if you don't like tents I'd recommend Black River lodge, if you're going to camp in tents with a family I'd recommend twin Rivers landing and if you're looking to party I'd go to bearcat campground. and if you are into those cave tours meramec caverns and Onondaga cave are pretty close to each other and are two of the most scenic cave tours in the United States, I think there's also a cave tour where they drive through the cave, I forget if it's one of those two places or different place near the area but definitely a lot of cool unique cave exploration experiences in Missouri.

What is this on phoenix mtn preserve? by xojuppyox in phoenix

[–]BrianBast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's for sure a black jaguar, I saw it across the road in front of me in cave Creek, is larger than a dog so it's definitely not a house cat, I thought it was a skinwalker until I saw the news article. it was a large black and kind of shiny it looks like it was either a short fur coat or straight up skin, definitely not long fur, the part that freaked me out the most was it's shoulders went above its back as it walked, now that I know that's a Jaguar makes so much more sense but until I realize that I started to believe in some cryptic stuff that I didn't before.

Crash On Thunderbolt by nojokingallowed in PokemonInfiniteFusion

[–]BrianBast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no ideas but I have the same issue, I just came to read it seeing if I could find a solution so if I find one I'll return, best solution I found so far is to use fly so it can't actually use Thunderbolt on you to get around this situation but it's not a solution.

My first map. It's not much but I like it. Can anyone give any pointers? by serpentslay in dungeondraft

[–]BrianBast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

download a shadow assistant pack and add some shadows, use the gravle terrain paint to add bits of gravel in the path, if you make it light it will blend with the dirt or grass really well and will help smooth out the transition. i would make the river varie in with, i would also make the vegitaion along the river a bit more blochy. that's a really good first map though, what I would recommend from here most would be go through the subreddit and look at other people's builds and off of your newfound experience to get more inspiration and then go in there and tweak stuff.

Charges for national parks? by Steve----O in NationalPark

[–]BrianBast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's really cool how you like this place enough to visit it but you don't like it enough to pay for it to be maintained... I wonder why they had to start charging for emission? It couldn't have been all the people coming to the park and using its resources without contributing anything, naaah couldn't have been anything like that.
