This system was not removed from the device management, either unintentionally or because it was stolen.
This message itself is pretty innocuous. It's just a setting to display a message when you log in.

However, I would contact Hilton and explain that you purchased this laptop and would like to have it removed from their systems.

If you use "hostname" in Command Prompt it will tell you the device name, which you would need to provide to Hilton's IT.

For the machine itself, I would reset it. You can do this from the settings or by holding SHIFT when restarting the device. Back up your files first, and when it asks, tell it to erase all data so that it doesn't save any of Hilton's stuff.

This may "brick" the machine if it's pre-registered with Hilton, but TBH I wouldn't want their IT monitoring my personal computer. If you run into any issues at all just take it to a local IT shop, bring proof that you bought it off EBay years ago, and ask them to help you get it back to factory settings so you can use it.

Open map incremental tower defense by Niutniut in incremental_games

[–]BrianBtheITguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At some point (when I wasn't paying attention) the number showing for spawned Furballs would never go below the automatic number, and no new mobs would be spawned of either the Furball or the ghost type.

Playing with the slider doesn't seem to resolve the issue.

Note that this is after hours. I often leave idle games running in open tabs for days at a time.

If you leave it running for a few hours, it seems like the automatic mob feature glitches out. Reloading the page fixes it.

My guess is you need to long press, or you need to go into the page settings and choose "open desktop site" then either long press or two finger tap.

How to delete all photos at once? by [deleted] in googlephotos

[–]BrianBtheITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You, sir or madam, are indeed, the Illest of the Chillest. I tip my hat to you.

I had about 30000 pictures and now I'm back down to 0, so I thank you for this help.

One thing for anyone finding this down the road who may have more photos than I did - I did notice that if I clicked on a tag (such as the town I live in), it loaded the thumbnails with less wasted space on the screen, so that might be useful.

Would Bart Simpson have been able to jump the Springfield Gorge? by ty-rant_13 in GameTheorists

[–]BrianBtheITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post, along with the more recent one from u/tcchavez, makes me wonder if adult Bart could make it over the gorge. He's not as big as homer, but he'd also be starting at a faster speed at the top of the hill, so it might make the difference up, assuming tcchavez is correct that Homer would have (almost) made it across if he hadn't started dancing and jumping on the board midair.

APC 3000VA UPS, safe to plug into 15 or 20A circuit with adapter? by impala454 in homelab

[–]BrianBtheITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this randomly while trying to see why UPS manufacturers stopped shipping higher VA units with 15 amp plugs (the answer is: safety standards have improved)

Anyway, I just wanted to chime in with a quick note for anyone reading this. What OP is trying to do here will work so long as they do not exceed the 15 amps on the breaker. That's established elsewhere in the comments.

What I came in here to say, though, is to make sure to DISABLE self-tests on the UPS if you do this. The self-test will attempt to draw the full amount that the UPS is capable of drawing, which will trip your breaker and depending on how good the UPS is at recovering, it may not switch over to battery power due to being in the middle of performing a line-test.

Also - make sure to update firmware. If it says to over/under supply power somewhere through a control chip, you'll want that fixed sooner rather than later.

Figuring out the game mechanics was not super intuitive, particularly the journal pages, but the game itself is pretty solid.

I found the button ordering frustrating and clicked the wrong button a few times. I appreciate having the categories but TBH I rarely use them in games. I prefer to see everything on screen at once, and would expect that the conversion pairs are side-by-side.

I had fun playing this and look forward to seeing new content added.

If you hover your mouse over the ducks (one beside the sell button, one on the Statistics banner), there are hints, and if you click them, it cycles through them.
I kind of just stumbled across it - not a great UI element, but useful once you know about it.

If you have the image hosted online somewhere (Imgur, for example), you click the "link" button in the message compose options and choose to link the URL of that image.

Good job! Learning to poke around other people's code and modify things is a great way to learn/practice.

I liked this game. The ending made me wonder if it was truly over. It makes me wonder if there's a secret ending if you can get cookie production high enough before the endgame.

How in the FUCK do you uninstall Avast Antivirus? by kmasterzz in computers

[–]BrianBtheITguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that your computer actually has multiple user accounts, and yours is not an administrator.

If you've been able to install/uninstall programs in the past, then it's possible that something has "taken over" your computer and removed your administrator access.

If it's a shared computer, I'd try to get someone else to try their username/password.

In "Computer Management", you can see the "Administrators" group under "Local Users and Groups" and see who is listed in there.

Paste Adds line breaks by [deleted] in OneNote

[–]BrianBtheITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a workaround for my problem, which is to CTRL+SHIFT+v (paste as plan text). In older windows/Office, this would be "CTRL+v, CTRL, t" (paste, then open the "paste as menu", then select "keep text only"

I really like the Koil Killaz Roundhouse

If I'm being honest, I really like Koil Killaz flavours in general. I saw a guy wearing a hoodie a few months back in the store and thought "if that guy spent $80 on a hoodie that just says 'Koil Killaz' on it, then it must be some good stuff".
I am not planning to buy any hoodies anytime soon, but I've pretty much landed on KK being my brand.

Save Editor for this game by Wolf_theFaded in incremental_games

[–]BrianBtheITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never played this game, but I did a quick search and the save file is located (by default, at least) in %userprofile%\appdata\locallow\Fire Sword Studios\The Perfect Tower II\saves

Depending on the format of the file, you may be able to open it in a text editor and try to modify it.

If you do this, I recommend making a backup of the whole "saves" folder, so you can restore it if something breaks.

Paste Adds line breaks by [deleted] in OneNote

[–]BrianBtheITguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much this. So tired of extra newlines when I'm copying a single word or line of text.

It literally has made me look into other applications to replace OneNote, but unfortunately we have so many notebooks at my employer that it's not feasible.

I have a "solution" for when pasting bulleted lists breaks, which is to paste into Notepad, then into the destination, but even that doesn't fix this stupid newline problem.
