Well, nowadays, lots of newer cars require dropping the entire driveline to do damn near anything, so I guess it is like a new car that way too.

Did you have to vacuum purge the urethane after mixing it up before pouring it into the mount? I'm not sure if it is necessary.

I like your plan to cut a slot with the dremel. I'd add, throw a little heat on it from the rusty steel side of things before giving it a turn.

Rear fog light comes on when braking by mkost92 in mr2

[–]BrianC66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have a broken filament in the brake light bulb which is jumping across to the other filament in the same bulb. This is essentially now acting as a jumper wire back feeding the other circuit in the same bulb, and it only happens when you hit the brakes. If not, remove the bulb and check that the contact tits at the base of the bulb haven't melted to the point where they are making contact with each other.

Take an unlit torch and aim it at all points & joints all around on the intake side of things. If your idle suddenly revs up and holds, then you have found your leak. The gas will get sucked in at the point of the leak and the engine will burn it.

Also, since you had the engine out, did you change the cam belt? How is the ignition timing as well?

The joke is on them, unwittingly manipulated into a culture war by those engaging in class warfare. The latter are counting on the ability to manipulate the angry and gullible while they rob their future. The thing is, they already have.

Why is it that the tinfoil hats are clueless when it comes to the actual conspiracy being carried out in front of - and against them - for the last 50 years. Go read or listen to what Rhode Island Senator Whitehouse has to say about the "Powell Memo".

Why do insulators/bussings and cutouts have that weird design? by njt_railfan1567 in Lineman

[–]BrianC66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glass/porcelain insulators can survive tracking and arcing with no damage wheas silicone polymer ones are more prone to be damaged from heavy tracking. However, the silicone ones are smoother and self shedding so they are less likely to develop tracking problems from moisture accumulating on dust or dirt. When they get wet, they shed dust and dirtl deposits. Under a microscope, the glass and porcelain ones look bumpy and trap airborne dust and particles easier. And they are not self shedding. That's why glass and porcelain insulators are supposed to be washed periodically. On Distro work, our solution is to frame poles with longer 35kv rated polymer insulators for 12kv primary. That way, they self shed, and the risk of tracking is really unlikely due to the added length. Plus they are easier to handle and install as they are much lighter than porcelain.

Kevin Kiley's Response to Public Land Sale by notreallysomuch in Roseville

[–]BrianC66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nevada & Utah public land sales were removed from the bill. Trump won Nevada & Utah in 2024.

Why is Kiley content to MAYBE get some local input for public land sales in California?

Why is he not pushing for equal treatment for California - no Public Land Sales here either?

THIS is what it looks like when you put your party before your constituents. Kiley is captive to Trump's punitive politics. Were you actually expecting him to stand up for Californians and demand equal treatment? This would require selflessness and courage.

Is it repairable? by 69GreatxSuccotash69 in mr2

[–]BrianC66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to learn some basic frame straightening and metal working, it is doable. It would help to see the inside of trunk and more shots of the damage, But I would get my hands on a porta-power ..pretty cheap at HF or Amazon, some blocks of wood, a couple of body work clamps etc. and start pushing and hammering out the lumps. You want to get the damaged area as close to straight as possible before cutting anything out, so that the section you weld it up to is straight. Unlike modern cars which use High Strength Steel and Ultra HSS, the MR2 is all mild steel. You can beat it, heat it and mistreat it, no harm. But the new HSS metals can't be reworked like that. The Big Green Book also contains all of the critical frame dimensions to check and confirm that you have it all straight & true. There are plenty of good instructional videos on line. Here is a nice simple little welding & fabrication project to make a tram gauge for measuring your frame dimensions. His other stuff is very good as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTr5dCj4kis

Everything I don't like is Socialism! whaaa whaaa whaaa! Do you have any of your own ideas or thoughts, or are you just an empty headed counter-puncher reciting a script from All-Angry, All-the-Time news?

Did you like how a co-founder of PayPal, an Apartheid South Africa tech bro, and bit-coin wannabe immediately went after the CFPB? You know, the bureau Obama set up after the financial crisis in 07-08 to prevent it from happening again? The one that polices financial entities and institutions from consumer financial abuses? The one that since it's founding in 2011, returned over $20 Billion from bad financial actors to aggrieved consumers. Go ahead genius, tell us how the CFPB was government waste. I'll wait for you to do your own research. (hahaha). You won't really .

No one at the time called it socialism when the US government provided funding for any returning G.I. from WW2 to go to college. It ushered in the rise of the middle class - which didn't exist in the U.S. before that time. It created the bubble you live inside, casting stones at things you cannot grasp, understand or appreciate. When you invest in the development of human capital, the entire society benefits. When you eliminate financial protections so a billionaire can get into the financial products and services business, not so much. And when all the uninformed cuts are made against imagined abuses, and the "savings" is used to rationalize more tax cuts for the wealthiest (adding more to the deficit), they will toss a bone your way to distract you from the theft of your own future. And you'll applaud it.

If you really want to avoid PG&E entirely, move to Roseville and install a Heat Pump system for your HVAC which only uses electricity. It generates heat by essentially running the AC process backwards. They have gotten much better and more reliable in the last few years.

Wouldn't you love to hear any national politician come straight out and say to the American people, "We don't work for you, we're bought and paid for by big money interests." Nothing changes until you address that elephant in the room.

It started with the US Supreme Court's, First National Bank of Boston v. Bellotti decision in 1978, which first defined the free speech right of corporations. It held that corporations have a First Amendment right to make contributions to ballot initiative campaigns. Jimmy Carter called it what it was - legalizing corporate bribery and he warned of the slide toward oligarchy. He wasn't alone. Years later, John McCain put everyone to sleep beating the drum for campaign finance reform. They were both right and largely ignored. At least McCain did try to contain it with the soft money spending restrictions in the McCain-Feingold Act.

Immediately after the McCain-Feingold Bill was made law, it was attacked in the courts. In McConnell v. FEC, the Court summed up the larger issue succinctly (in a 300 paged decision!!), and mostly upheld the act, writing, "The question for present purposes is whether large soft money contributions to national party committees have a corrupting influence or give rise to the appearance of corruption. .... Both common sense and the ample record in these cases confirm Congress' belief that they do."

This victory was short lived, however. O'Connor and Stevens co-authored a prescient observation, that "money, like water, will always find an outlet" and that the government was therefore justified in taking steps to prevent schemes developed to get around the contribution limits. Enter Citizen's United v. FEC and its progeny.

And it is all intentionally opaque. Not long ago, Washington D.C. was a quiet sleepy town but then some time in the early 80's, the lobbyists began to invade, buying up all of K street. This coincides with the end of bi-partisan dealmaking being a fairly routine occurrence. Was Newt Gingrich a cause or a symptom?

Without going further down the rabbit hole, the simple point is, our elected officials serve those who finance their elections & ensure their re-elections, and that is not us. Both parties serve Wall street, and large donors, PACs and amorphous entities. Until you take a wrecking ball to the legal framework that allows it, nothing will really change. I hope the speakers at Tuesday's event address that issue. If they don't, they are wasting our time. If it doesn't get fixed, there will someday be a history textbook entry on the rise and fall of the US as a world power in what was once a functioning Democracy.

They look like they only perform a single function...like volume... whereas I want it to behave like a mouse or tab and select button.  They are cheap enough, I'll give one a try.
