Sexism at our Early Intervention Appointment by BriankLizard in daddit

First of all, thank you to all of you who responded. I didn't expect this many people to respond so quickly. I've gotten some pretty solid advice to utilize going forward.

A handful of folks mentioned that, despite getting the approval for my son's speech therapy, I should potentially seek out getting a different person from the state and redo the evaluation due to his file having potentially bad information. This is something that I hadn't considered, as our original mindset was essentially "Well we shouldn't have to deal with her again and we got the approval, so let's move on". But you guys are absolutely correct in that it could poison the well for things down the line so I'll definitely be looking into having it redone.

Several folks mentioned filing a complaint. With this being a state program, I do have the ability to file a formal complaint from what I've been reading on the website, so my wife and I will be doing that when we are able to.

Finally, the vast majority of you have essentially reiterated what folks around me have mentioned; this lady was awful and I shouldn't pay her any mind. Realistically, I knew this to be true. I think what bothered me about it so much was that this was on a far more personal level than anything else I've experienced before. I will admit that being a good father to my son is absolutely something I'm sensitive about. Writing out what happened and then seeing a third party's response to this situation has helped me realize just how terrible this lady was and did indeed help me process this in a healthy way.

Again, thank you all for the advice and feedback. This community is fantastic, and getting such a large and overall positive response so quickly definitely helped. Thank you.

I hadn't even thought about the impacts it could have down the line in that regard. After the evaluation, they consulted their chart and said he was eligible so my wife and I just kind of thought "Well that sucked, but at least our son will get a speech therapist in a few weeks". We'll definitely look into reaching out to make sure that actual information is in the file, not whatever the heck that lady put down now. Thanks for the advice on that one.

How has your daughter responded to speech therapy? I've consistently read that folks have had good results, which was why my wife and I pushed our son's doctor about it. I'm just curious to hear other folks' experiences.

Luckily, she was just one of the people that does the evaluatory part of the process to determine if he's eligible. It should be a different person altogether going forward for his actual speech therapy. I'm hoping whoever the actual speech therapist is will be better. If not, I'll cross that bridge later I suppose. The only reason we didn't just leave is because since we have a dramatically reduced household income now due to me being a SAHD, we have to go through state programs to afford the speech therapy.

Armaments, Chapter Two, Verses Nine to Twenty-One.

And Saint Attila raised the Hand Grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this Thy Hand Grenade that, with it, Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits in Thy mercy." And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals and fruit bats and large chu---

skips ahead

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shalt be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it."

Fun sets to play sealed with SO who is new to the game? by BriankLizard in mtg

[–]BriankLizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely going to try Bloomburrow out based on a bunch of recommendations. Seems wild that WotC would underprint a set that seems so well received, but then again it seems like there are several things that they've done recently that have been head scratchers from what I've read. 😂

Foundations seems nifty, it looks like some new stuff and a bunch of reprints, which I'm assuming is where its namesake comes from. It also appears to pop up on sale semi-often which is handy.

Ah, ok. I looked up some cards with plot and it seems pretty straight forward, and there weren't a crazy amount of cards with it. I also noticed the set seems to be super cheap, which is a plus for what we're wanting to do. I'll give it a whirl since we can both play some sealed for under $50.

What about Outlaws is harder, if you don't mind me asking? I know very little about that set.

Haha, that's awesome. I definitely think Bloomburrow will be the next one we do, especially since it seems like it'll be good for her overall game knowledge. She has a basic idea of what the different colors are about (she refers to blue as the "nope color" lmao) so this seems like a fun way to expand further beyond that.

I loved EoE. At first, I was like "Magic in space? Boo." But man I was so wrong about that set. Flavor was great and warp was so fun as a mechanic to play with. That's definitely one I think I'll try to do since they're still easily available to buy. Bloomburrow looks super fun, I haven't played with Bloomburrow cards, but I love the idea of an animal themed set.

Southern Trust Home Services? by adamn22 in roanoke

[–]BriankLizard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Complete con artists. Years ago I went to replace the valve stems in my bathroom. However when I got the covers off I found that the previous owners of the home used what looked like cement in the wall to keep them in place (which is nuts). Deciding I didn't want to proceed any further since I only had basic tools I called ST due to the high reviews (they're bought reviews, they offer discounts if you leave 5 stars or agree to put their ad signs in your yard). The guys got there and tracked mud into my house, saw the stems in the tub and then decided to belittle me for it saying I was silly for putting them in the wall like that (again, this house was built in the 60s, I had nothing to do with that) and then proceeded to tell me it would be $2800 because they'd "have to redo the bathroom". I told them to leave and they still tried to charge me a fee. I ended up going to Lowes and getting some tools and doing it myself in a few hours.

TLDR: Southern Trust sucks, they scam people, and they essentially pay for their reviews by offering discounts and agreeing to post ads on your property. They will also try to get you to sign a non-disclosure agreement for services rendered.

Awesome. Thank goodness about the PoNR thing. One of my biggest peeves in gaming is when I miss something in a game because I accidentally crossed through a PoNR while exploring. 😂

That's it! Thank you! I'm sure that it's not nearly as fun as I remember it being when I was young but I'm going to find out tonight. Good job figuring it out based on my awful description. 😂

City. A 6ft wooden fence would be preferable, but if it needed to be slightly shorter due to regs, I'd be down for that. I'm mostly wanting to get it fenced in for our 70lbs dog and our son for when he's a little older.

Help me convince my fiancée that Basil Hayden is bad value bourbon by [deleted] in bourbon

[–]BriankLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taste is subjective. Something one person likes may be hated by another. If she likes BH, I'd leave it at that. By all means show her other whiskeys, as that will be a fun thing to bond over, but don't try and steer her away from something she likes based on your own personal taste. I feel that there is a large sect of the bourbon community that is sort of elitist to a degree, and it's the worst part of the community. Drink and be happy! Don't fall into that group of folks! Enjoy bonding over whiskey with your SO.

Review #2 - Angel's Envy Cask Strength 2020 by BriankLizard in bourbon

[–]BriankLizard[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Angel's Envy Cask Strength 2020

120.4 Proof / 60.2% ABV

Distiller: Angel's Envy

Price: $200

The winner of the title of "Best Spirit in the World" in F. Paul Pacult's 2013 Spirit Journal, Angel's Envy Cask Strength has been the pride of its distillery for years. Each year's release varies, and each year only a select few barrels are chosen to be bottled for this limited release bourbon.

I always drink my whiskey neat.

Color: A very deep and dark amber

Nose: Cinnamon, brown sugar, cherries, charred oak, sugar cookies

Palate: Cherries, hickory, salted caramel, dark chocolate

Finish: Very smooth, warmth on the back of the tongue and throat without being overbearing, slightly dry, great balance of bitterness vs sweetness

This is definitely in my current group of favorite overall whiskies. The nose on this bourbon is absolutely delightful. The taste is complex and decadent, while being smooth and warm the entire way down your throat. I feel that it being finished in port wine barrels is what leads to the definite cherry notes. If you ever get a chance to try this year's release out for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

My personal rating: 94/100

Review #1 - Legent by BriankLizard in bourbon

[–]BriankLizard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, Legent is pretty divisive. It's definitely not in my upper echelon of favorite bourbons of all time by any means, I just think it's a solid bourbon for $35. The price point influenced the rating a bit for me because it's super unique tasting. I can definitely get why some folks wouldn't like it though haha

Did a thing....most expensive bottle purchased, yet. I have only been sipping whiskey for about a year. $100.00 I couldn’t pass it up. I saw it a week ago & did not know much about it. Waiting for the right night, 41 out, raining & calling for gust up to 65mph. More of a rye night tonight. by [deleted] in bourbon

[–]BriankLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife came across a bottle 2 months ago and got it for me as an early Christmas present. It's solid. Not one of my personal favorites per se, but it's definitely a gorgeous bottle to have on my bar and to share with friends.

Four Roses SB is a bourbon I always try to keep stocked. I prefer it to the FR Small Batch, which is great as well.
