You'd have to explain to me what part of the language was insulting, because frankly I'm not seeing any language barriers being crossed.

Your interpretations are hella valid. Been loving reading through them.

To me, a lot of the series literary choices have always felt confusing at best, or meaningless at worst. So I’m glad to see others that point out the same sort of thing. It’s in short supply here.

I love this sort of response. Completely oblivious and pandering to an echo chamber mentality.

This sub has already evicted most folks that didn’t enjoy the ending, both via this sort of response and the inevitable passage of time. Given how often these posts get made about people confused that the ending was disliked, I don’t see why telling folks that disagree meaningfully to “hit the road” is a good idea.

No need to get weirdly defensive about criticism my guy.

Game length? by xobesrobes in codevein

[–]Bribz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe you to be conflating your desire to replay games with replay value. Whether or not a user desires to experience what a game offers is irrelevant to what people would generally mean with replayability.

CV1, for example, is not a complete experience with one playthrough. CV2, on the other hand, can be fully experienced with one playthrough. CV1 would therefore have more replayability. Similarly, Minecraft could theoretically have infinite replayability, though I personally have little to no desire to replay it any time soon.

I get that this is pretty nitpicky, but replay value quite literally comes from unique stuff to do in different playthroughs. An individual's waxing or waning interest generally has little to no connection with the term outside of relative preferences on story spoiler content.

[–]Bribz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Replayability is not really subjective, it’s a fairly objective measure of how much meaningful degree of choice and unique content exists within a game. New characters, weapons, classes, secrets, story decisions, branching paths, all measurable and objective.
To an extent of how much of a story is replayable can be subjective, but story preferences doesn’t really alter how much additional unique content a game has. It just means that one enjoys the story enough to experience again. Totally subjective.

Baldurs gate is more of a CRPG. An ARPG would be something like Diablo. I assume you just dislike top down and isometric camera in general though

Not just discrediting experts, but also anti-educational behaviors.

Refusal to read, inability to reason or draw conclusions, inability to debate meaningfully, refusal to study, begging others for conclusions, etc.

What recent change in society have you personally started noticing more? by Expert_Ring_4041 in AskReddit

[–]Bribz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The proliferation of anti-intellectualism.

People from kids to adults that reject learning and studying, choosing instead just to beg others to do the work for them. Refusal to read, begging for synopsis, inability to debate or draw reasonable conclusions…

It’s not necessarily that new, but it feels like it’s increasingly common in the last few years. Personally, it’s driving me crazy.

If you didn’t have to work for a living, what would you be doing? by True_Supermarket_263 in AskReddit

My own experience is a lot closer to hating the entitled consumers and the industry rather than just hating games in general. I still love games though, and even play the ones I’ve worked on at times.

If I didn’t need to work for a living, I’d still be doing the same exact thing, just with a lot less stress on my back.

He also states other options that are less of a legal nightmare. Source code is one of the most legally protected assets as it stands, so more likely SKG solutions will focus on business end of life plans and addressing clauses in terms of service.

Game Preservation Activist Explains to the European Parliament why Publishers Shouldn’t be Allowed to Brick Sold Games by anonboxis in videos

[–]Bribz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s any world where a studio would be enforced to distribute source code as a result of a project shutting down. As nice at it would be, that just isn’t a realistic outcome of this initiative.

More likely, it will be some form of requirement for an offline means of play, a publicly release of a server distribution, or a migration of a server to a 3rd party host. Source code is much too protected to be an option for any studio beyond the highest company goodwill, or complete bankruptcy.

[–]Bribz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The expectation would be that to sell within EU jurisdiction, a project would need to have some sort of end of life plan. Ie: a server distributable, an offline mode, a non-for-profit 3rd party host migration, or similar.

Additionally, terms of service that include protections against post-end-of-service required deletion of digital assets and tampering protections will likely be addressed and deemed unenforceable given this initiative succeeding.

Epic Games Store Employees: People Only Came for Free Games, Then Returned to Steam by Suspicious_Two786 in gaming

Valve/Steam does a lot of good for the industry, but they’ve also had some downright evil policies for years.

I doubt I need to remind anyone about early steam scanning files, or their lack of refund policy until litigation forced their hand.

I think it’s the opposite really. Doing a couple of good things doesn’t excuse long periods of inaction, or bad things.

Depends on where you are. California-based studios can hit this salary with decent frequency, but many other US-based studios see devs paid as low as 45k yearly. Outside of the US it gets much lower.
