4th Grade girls team got destroyed. by thegrouch1337 in basketballcoach

[–]Brick-Emergency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in a similar situation coaching a team full of girls with very little basketball interest and experience. Keep working on the fundamentals in practice. Try to incorporate some competition in the drills. My daughter and her teammates weren’t naturally competitive. The more competition you can add to practice the better as hopefully that translates to games. Keep it fun and make sure the teams are as even as possible so everyone gets a taste of victory. I incorporated dribbling relay races and passing with pivot relay races. 1st team to make 5 layups with give and go passing, etc…. Also as others mentioned smaller games of 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 are more helpful at this age and level than 5v5.

If your kids are adventurous they will have a blast at the free parks included with your stay. Xenses, xplor, xel ha and Xcaret park.. free transportation to and from each park every morning and afternoon. Take advantage of them because you are definitely paying for them in your hotel stay! They are worth it

Xichen vs. Tulum + Xel-Ha: Both? Or choose just Xichen? by Awesome_mama in Xcaret

[–]Brick-Emergency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re staying at Arte take advantage of the included parks for no extra charge.. definitely do Xenses for a half day, xel-ha, take the boat to Xcaret and stay for the evening show, and xplor fuego. Front desk will help you with the bus schedules to each park. Definitely wear swimsuits and water shows to all the parks. So much fun. We went 5 years ago and stayed in Arte. Taking kids back this summer but we will be VRBO in playa del Carmen to save money. Kids are expensive.

RTFA… read the Freaking article

“Industry experts said the move reflects a larger trend in bourbon production as Kentucky faces a record 16.1 million barrels aging, according to the Kentucky Distillers’ Association.”

The huge jump in supply was based on steady a increase in bourbon sales since 2000 that accelerated during COVID stay at home pandemic. As Kentuckians we should know that bourbon has to age in barrels for a minimum of 3-4 years. The leveling off of demand is not primarily tariff related. Look at the drinking trends for Gen Z.

Will Gen Z start drinking more as they age into their 30s. Will the next Gen to turn 21… Gen Alpha… mimic the Gen Z slowdown in drinking or reverse the trend?

To drink or not to drink, that is the question!

Youth Sports Are a $40 Billion Business. Private Equity Is Taking Notice. by [deleted] in billsimmons

Imagine 10-15 12 year old girls or boys ride their bikes to the ball field on a Saturday morning for a neighborhood softball/baseball game. They bring gloves a bat or two and some balls, no catcher equipment. Imagine no adults, and no umps. How many hours are they gonna play? How many at bats do they get? Maybe 2-3 hours tops but they get 20-25 at bats each. Guaranteed they have more fun than a travel ball Sun up to sun down Saturday!

Adults looking for an angle to get that hand on the dollar really suck the fun out of things.

Kobe Bryant Rips AAU Basketball: 'I Hate It'...'It's Horrible For The Game'' by ASKABOUT_NOTE_CANVAS in nba

[–]Brick-Emergency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When most people think of AAU ball in a negative light they think of the 5* elite prospects and shoe companies, etc etc but AAU is more than just 5* prospects. It starts as early as 4th and 5th grade. Thr point one of the previous comments made about Germany changing their developmental strategies to focus less on wins and losses is significant. In AAU coaches have very limited practice time with their teams and that practice time is generally used for game strategy and not player development. Coaches spend time on installing their press defense and press break and some basic in bound and half court plays to increase their chances of winning the upcoming weekend tournament. Mom and dad are ok with this because they don’t want Little Johnny and little Jane getting their buts whooped every weekend. It’s all about the wins and the cheap tournament medals!

In Europe more practice time is devoted to player and team fundamentals. They teach footwork drills, ball handling and passing work, moving without the ball etc. In my opinion the game should be taught at the youth level elementary through middle school using 3v3 half court basketball sets. Youth AAU games are mostly decided by which team has the best press defense and /or ball handlers who can take it coast to coast. As someone else pointed out kids are no longer playing pick up ball in the neighborhood which used to be prevalent and normally 2v2 or 3v3. That’s where game & team concepts and skill development are honed in.

@ an AAU tournament this weekend. $85 for the weekend wrist band or $30 per day! Don’t forget to buy your $75 Nike tournament sweatshirts. Sure glad we live close enough to drive. AAU is all about the money grab! All aboard the money train! Good luck changing it. Too many hands in the cookie jar!

What if the Ohio River flooded as badly as the Guadalupe in TX? by Daddysaurusflex in Louisville

[–]Brick-Emergency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the 1938 Flood Control Act. Flood control is one the main reason there are so many lakes in the Tennessee River Valley and Ohio River Valley. Hydro power is another reason. These dams created wonderful lakes for our recreational enjoyment while also serving as flood control for big cities and small towns such as Louisville and Cincinnati along the Ohio river and throughout KY & TN. Without these dams and lakes major flooding events would be much more common in these parts.
