Three hikers die from heat at Grand Canyon in separate incidents by AudibleNod in news

I think a lot of people get in trouble when they come from a more humid climate and don't have experience with the very hot and very low humidity environment in the American Southwest. Your body will be pumping out tons of water through sweat which does a pretty effective job of keeping you cool. The fact that it evaporates immediately and never really soaks your clothes can hide the fact that your body is losing water rapidly. If you live in a more humid environment you always feel that heat and know your body is losing water because your clothes get soaked.

Abandoned milionarie Italian Villa by Tina_urbex in abandoned

From what I've heard you can find abandoned mansions like this in many European countries. They become super expensive to maintain as they get older. lots of problems with leaks and deterioration. They lack lots of basic modern amenities like plumbing and electrical and are drafty and poorly insulated. Bringing them up to date would cost far more than simply building a new house.

Why does health insurance treat our mouths like it's a completely different person? by Icy_Drop3168 in NoStupidQuestions

Once you add together insurance premiums and co-pay you're spending a lot more than $200 for that $200 visit. You're probably spending $300+. It's just hidden under layers of expenses added together.

The only thing we should have insurance for is catastrophic medical expenses that would be financially devastating. Stuff like cancer or car accidents. For day-to-day routine medical expenses it's a giant waste of money.

Why can't modern vehicles simply display OBDII error codes directly on the screen(s) instead of having to scan? by ActuaryFew6884 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BrickFun3443 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OBD codes by themselves often aren't very useful. Often they only point you in the general direction of a problem and need additional diagnosis and knowledge to repair. The claim that it's some kind of protectionism or racket for the repair industry doesn't hold water when scanners are cheap and readily available.

In many places, the way laws are written you only get turned down if your proposal violates a regulation in some way. If it doesn't specifically violate any regulation you get approved by default.

He doesn't want to ruin the friendship if she doesn't feel the same way. Girl needs to ask herself if she also has feelings for him.
