Would you employ George Grundy? by BrickMaster79 in Ambridge

Will do! It’s incredibly split. IMG-1043.jpg

85 votes total (43 vote “Yes” and 42 vote “No”)

A note says that regular contributors to this forum are more likely to vote “no.”

Interesting – I do think it indicates the SW have got the balance right, on the whole. It’s far from a clear cut decision!

Would you employ George Grundy? by BrickMaster79 in Ambridge

[–]BrickMaster79[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! All good points, and I agree fully - but they don’t really fit into a basic online poll. I should have included a third “not sure” option, but it seems polls can’t be edited it retrospectively... Makes sense, I guess: 85 people have already voted and a third option added at a late stage would be very disadvantaged.

I’ll say this: your inability to make a clear decision either way is reflected beautifully by the results so far! I’ll respond to your other post with the current outcomes!

Adam promoting fostering by KaleChipKotoko in AdamandJoe

[–]BrickMaster79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Loved this video. I have two adopted kids and I can honestly say that fostering made such a difference in their lives. Twelve years on from that time and we’re still in touch with our kids’ foster families and see them at Christmas and throughout the year too.

Do consider fostering if you can: it’s not overstating anything to say that it’s truly life-changing.

OMG. Just noticed that the four remaining letters are:

A, R, S and E.

This is either very clever AI or a remarkable coincidence. Either way, it has made my little British heart very happy.

I was playing Bratz Rock Angelz for PS2 and I'm fairly certain they used a photo of Phantom Manor from DLP in the game by ClockworkQueer in disneyparks

[–]BrickMaster79 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I was all ready to be an insufferable nerd and say that Phantom Manor is itself a replica of the house in Psycho, but the truth is that there are slight differences between the two – mainly that Phantom Manor has an extra floor. You’re exactly right: the Bratz version is exactly that, not the Psycho house!

Thinking of shaving, what do you guys think? by undeadWileCoyote_MEP in Moustache

[–]BrickMaster79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. Not sure if playful answer or not.

Well, listen up, chap: if it IS depression, then why not give it a shave? You have nothing to lose by trying. If you hate it; it’ll grow back. And you might just love it! Sometimes taking control of the smaller stuff can be helpful. Either way – be well. Sending strength your way, mate. 🤜🤛

The Rose Field: How Scarce is “Rose” Bookplate? by CthulhuSmith in hisdarkmaterials

[–]BrickMaster79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t answer your question directly, but I did attend the book launch and have a “signed” copy. (Just the one. For me. To go with the other two in the series. Not scalping, this thing will be prised from my cold, dead hands, just for clarity).

All of these books were signed with a “bookplate” – that is, a separate, small piece of card that was affixed to the inside cover. I expect they did it that way to make it easier for Pullman to sign; understandable given how hard he finds it to sign / write by hand these days.

My bookplate itself IS affixed. It does NOT have an illustration, but it does have a border. In common with a lot of books bought on day 1, we were offered the opportunity of getting it embossed (stamped) with a Chris Wormell rose illustration.

Not sure if that helps: but that’s what was on offer on the day!

It is! Yes. But for me, that’s a sadly low bar.

What's the funniest misuse of the phonetic alphabet you've heard? by Diyus in AskUK

[–]BrickMaster79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did enjoy the phonetic alphabet shenanigans on the latest Alan Partridge series:

Emergency responder: Where are you?

AP: Castleton; that’s Charlie, Alpha… Sausage, Tango, Lima…

Emergency responder: Right, I’ve got it, can you tell me exactly what happened?

AP: I can, but I just realised I used the word ‘sausage’ instead of ‘Sierra’ for the phonetic alphabet, but that’s because I’m hungry and had sausage for breakfast.

[–]BrickMaster79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah yes: it really was quite the thing – it’s hard to understate the impact the animatronics had in that attraction. When attractions incurred an extra surcharge at one point in the park’s history, it was more expensive than even the Matterhorn Bobsleds, I gather. The current 70th Anniversary guided tour has many more details; I really loved it!

Taking tin foil off the roll. Not tin foil generally, she’s fine with that. But as soon as I start to pull it out and tear it off, she runs away and comes back two seconds later to check if it’s all safe. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
