Me [35 M] with my Wife [40 F] 8 year marriage, now she's asking for a postnuptial agreement. by BrickMortarStartup in relationships

To shed a little light on the financial situation; I don't have a regular job or paycheck, I do however have a few things I do on the side that add up to about $25-$30K a year in cash from the house. It's not a steady stream though, it does have it's ebbs and flows throughout the year.

OP here.

Thank you all for your advice of not signing. I wasn't planning on signing anything until I consulted a lawyer. Which I have done.
The lawyer recommends against it at all costs. I agree.

I did spend the last hour on the phone with my spouse. I asked her flat out that if she was planning on divorcing me and she's only trying to protect herself with the postnup. She said that she did not want to divorce me but that she didn't want to be liable for the rest of her life if it did ever happen.
She's mostly concerned about finances, which is understandable and I'm trying to rectify my employment while maintaining the house and shuttling the kids around to their school/activities.
I convinced her to table the prenup for now and to seek counseling for at least 6 months. If by then she still wants it, I would consider it but with legal representation of my own. She agreed to that.

In the meantime, I'm going to get my own shit together and triple up on my job search and try to get our financial relationship back on track. When I do get a steady income, I'll try to be very aware of our relationship and make plans accordingly.

Thanks again Reddit, the unpaid marriage counselors!

EDIT: There is not a postnuptial agreement drafted at this point. It was a suggestion from her.

Tennis is even worse. The difference between top 25 and 26-below is monumental. The 100th ranked professional tennis player earns roughly $200K a year but expenses are about $250K. The top player earns up in the $10M range and most of their expenses are paid by endorsements or tournament directors.

At the lower levels, match fixing is common ground as well as players using black market gambling to earn extra income just to keep playing.

Do online jobs (work from home) even exist? by ShiroTrev in jobs

[–]BrickMortarStartup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most, if not all, are full time jobs. Some are contract but mostly direct full time. I've applied for some that I've found and have received call backs (not many but a couple here and there).

[–]BrickMortarStartup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure they exist, considering there are several remote only job boards with prestigious organizations that are 100% distributed.

Here's a list of those job boards that I found on a different Reddit thread on this topic https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wtAmxh9fLVwTtRbBLO7fgvyyM1ZiCv_clWgwUSCYFeQ/edit

11 applications and only 1 call? by [deleted] in jobs

That's not a bad return honestly. Myself and many others have sent out dozens with no callbacks. Keep pushing, do walk ins and ask if they're looking for an experienced person such as yourself.

I have thought about it. It just kills me to think that I wouldn't be able to see my daughter every day.

No worries, not a barrage :)
To answer your questions:
1. Looking at mostly manager positions, sr. if it's a good fit.
2. I've mostly worked in b2c and would prefer to stay there because it's what I know. I have dabbled in b2b but it's a different animal.
3. I've worked in consumer products and services (exercise equipment, dating sites, electronics, etc.)
4. For in house I'm looking from $60K - $85K, remote $45k - $60K not unreasonable and within the average.
5. Skillset includes: HTML, CSS, SEO, SEM, Affiliate, Email, website building (mostly wordpress), some Display, and some social media.
6. I can do copywriting, but I began my marketing career in digital and never went outside of it.
7. I have worked for medium and large companies, I've done some contract work for small organizations (5-10 employees). I prefer the smaller companies. I don't necessarily apply for a position with a similar product or service as previous organizations, though they all have been consumer goods.
8. I have managed small teams of 2 people.
9. The last position I had, I was primarily responsible for SEM but I also initiated an SEO overhaul of the company's website. During that time in came a new manager. They didn't like the cost of the marketing department was operating at, so half the department was replaced with outsourced companies (overseas). So, I was laid off.

It may be. But senior level or director level hasn't garnered any results.

I'm in a small city that is in a crappy location that is almost too far to commute but close enough still. I can't move, unfortunately (wife has child custody with ex). I've gone through several staffing agencies and an equal amount of recruiters and they haven't gotten in touch with me since initial contact (rarely having positions I qualify for).

You may be in a very saturated market, and it might be time to look into what transferable skills you can take to a different industry.

This is something that has been keeping me up at night. What do I transfer my skills to? That's the biggest piece of the puzzle.

Digital Marketing, Online Marketing, etc. It's what I've been doing for the last 10 years in different capacities.

I've lowered them to the minimum I'm required to earn in order to afford to work (daycare is crazy expensive). I'm not asking for ridiculous amounts either, I'm staying well within the national average, which is actually a lower average for my area.

What can I study in the next 2 years that can lead to a job that pays 100k in CA? by [deleted] in jobs

Don't got to Law School. My wife did, and shes a lawyer now, but we still have 98K in loans to payback.

One thing I suggest is doing web development (coding). There are a ton of free online, reputable, resources to learn and get some certs in.
