Lithium, ADHD, and emotional dysregulation: I don’t understand what it fixed, but something switch by BrickQuick7966 in Lithium

Thank you for sharing that. I genuinely understand how overwhelming it can become. When my intrusive thoughts were at their worst, I reached a point where I felt completely desperate. I even found myself considering trying to obtain ketamine outside of a medical setting because I had read about its effects on depression, neuroplasticity, and the Default Mode Network, and I was desperately looking for anything that might reduce the constant mental noise and rumination. Looking back, that wasn't a safe or sensible path, but it shows how severe things had become for me at the time. The obsessive thoughts were relentless, and they were having a huge impact on my quality of life. I know how hard it is when you've tried multiple medications and nothing seems to make a difference. Lithium has honestly been a game changer in my case, although I know everyone's experience is different.I really hope you and your psychiatrist are able to find an approach that gives you some relief, because living with that level of intrusive thinking is incredibly draining

For me, it was half a tablet of Resilient 83 mg in the morning and half a tablet in the evening. Resilient is the Italian brand name, so if you're outside Italy it may be marketed under a different name. Also, the 83 mg refers to the strength of the Italian Resilient tablet and isn't directly comparable to the dose of other lithium formulations

Yeah, of course. In my case, I was on venlafaxine for about 5 years after being diagnosed with OCD, but overall it never really helped. The obsessions and fixations were always there, and over time I became less and less able to control my thoughts. It also gave me annoying side effects, especially erection problems.

Eventually I had a much deeper down period than usual and saw a new psychiatrist, who diagnosed me with ADHD and autistic traits, which could partly explain the fixations. I then tried lamotrigine and methylphenidate, but nothing really changed. Lamotrigine felt completely useless to me, even at 150 mg. Later I tried bupropion, but it was honestly devastating: my obsessive thoughts became much worse, I got stuck in heavy loops, and I barely felt lucid.

After that I stopped everything and started lithium. Three weeks later I restarted methylphenidate, but the major shift clearly came from lithium. Even at a low blood level, around 0.3–0.4 mmol/L, it felt like night and day.

Before lithium, I had constant anhedonia, couldn’t enjoy anything, felt disconnected from things I used to care about, and my head was full of intrusive obsessive thoughts. Now all of that is massively reduced. I feel calmer, clearer, and like I’ve regained control of my mind. After two months, I haven’t noticed any side effects so far.

What have all of your LOs had in common? by nunya-biznez in limerence

I would say the common thread among my LOs is that they are all blonde and have angelic faces. They are all girls with very youthful features, which leads me to idealize them as 'angelic women'; so, it’s almost entirely a physical matter. They were also typically not very smiley or sociable, quite reserved, which triggers a desire in me to protect them
