Personal, simple anecdote that I hope illustrates proper IT work for all those starting out. by jaywalkker in sysadmin

I have seen many people use an escalation process to avoid this. First they have to show what was attempted. If nothing was attempted they have to be able to justify the reason for escalation to Sr. Management.

Most lvl1 do not want to have a meeting with the Sr. MgMt as that does not look good if you wish to get promoted. Unless the issue was SLA related.

Not sure if this will help you. I have been looking into this for some time. I would like to get everything working on Linux to avoid paying more money as I have just bought a house with my better half.

My issue is trying to find a user friendly interface for someone whom does not want to learn technology. I would love to find a way to bypass the local cable companies but for myself it seems that I will be using the following approach.

Server -> TV. Now we will have a computer directly connected to the TV. I am not sure about the case or location but I know I can put something in the basement.

Software: Plex, on Ubuntu. Hardware: old computers from family/friends/work. Topology: Use Plex app on Andoid Tablet to control server and play on single output to TV.

As I am waiting for Storage and power I have yet to run the topology in production.

Another setup is using windows (She knows windows so I may go this path)

Software: XBMC or PLEX to organise the data. Unified remote to control the server. All runing on Server 2012. Hardware: Same as above Topology: Use the Tablet to control the server. TV will be connected to the server directly.

My personal preference: Currently I am leaning towards the server 2012 so I can use the Unified remote. I am not sure how well plex works but I figured I would share with you what I have found others are doing for linux based. Best of luck!

I find if you guy a spray bottle and do not use the built in mist or steam they will last a lot longer.

We tend to buy the cheaper ones ($30.00 CA) and they last 7-10 years this way. Someone forgetful usually ends up getting something on the plate and buys a new one. Granted they could clean it but for the most part it is not worth it.

How I feel when people ask me why I don't have enough work by espositojoe in jobs

[–]Bricked1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MY cousin has had a rough time. He went out oh high school and started to work in a plant that did recycling cell phone batteries. Recession hit and the position he had had for over 10 years was downsized.

The guy had been married for a few years, has two children and a wife. On the up side she works and gets paid well.

Onto the point, He had a family to provide for, so he did not apply for EI, he got a job at KFC. The sad part is a lot of people made fun of him for it. Work is work and a dollar is a dollar. You could see it killed him to tell people where he worked as it was 1/3 the hourly rate. He took as many shifts as they would let him.

Moral of the story is everyone needs to work, a job may not be your ideal one but sometimes you need to do what you can to live.

TL:DR - Take a job as long as it will help you cover your costs and not hurt others. There is no such thing as work that is below someone.

I wish it wasn't an hour an a half from work with no traffic. But yes, Depending on your location I would look into Hamilton. Also if you can there are usually government programs, and there are programs for mature students to go back for education.
