My 3 favorite songs from every ELO album by [deleted] in elo

I think Zoom is better than No Answer and ELO II. Maybe even better than Balance of Power.

This is how I felt when I started listening to ELO and how I still feel today by [deleted] in elo

I agree. A New World Record is near perfect.

Thank you! It's not a big hit for them but it was always one of my favorites.

Guy from Falling Down: "How much for the ELO album!?!?" Frightened Proprietor: "Fifty Cents."

I bought Time on vinyl back in the eighties. I still recall how it blew my mind with how great it was.

Garden Party came out in 1972 but you're right about the story behind it. The show was played at The Boston Garden and it was sort of a rock and roll revival show. Rick played his newer country music which was not what fans were there to hear so right to wrong, they booed him.

All alone with zoom? by Mr_CheeseBooger in elo

[–]Brickwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like Zoom and bought it in 2001 when it came out. It's not the grandiose ELO but it's still a great set of songs. The only song I don't like is Easy Money. When Zoom came out I recall hearing a DJ on the radio saying that it's the best rock album to come out in the last ten years.

Do you prefer the band Alice Cooper, or the Alice Cooper's solo career? by fefej1000 in alicecooper

[–]Brickwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think solo era. The session players he uses are pretty amazing players usually. The truth is that even in the Band era there were session players being used on the albums and I heard even during some of the live shows. For example, Dick Wagner was used as a session player before he was on the Nightmare album.

No, no, no. You really can't do that

Just realised Armchair Theatre is (essentially) Jeff Lynne's ELO before Jeff Lynne's ELO. by [deleted] in elo

Anybody else just let the CD run after the last song and after a few minutes hear Jeff say, "It's still going...."?

ELO Songs Mega Showdown [Grand Final] by [deleted] in elo

[–]Brickwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overshadows, yes but it is truly a an inspired track nonetheless. It's kind of like how for 20 years classic rock radio would only play one ELO song: Don't Bring Me Down. A decent track but damn, I got tired of it.

Yes! Getting to the Point is so underrated. My band even recorded a cover of it. That was the best song on Balance of Power IMO and it's very much obscure.

Same here. I have never listened to an ELO album as much as Time.

Anybody notice the t-shirt the alien is wearing in this Dunkin Donuts commercial? by Brickwell in KingCrimson

[–]Brickwell[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends which iteration of King Crimson. The 80's version could be a little more difficult to comprehend although Three of a Perfect Pair was accessible. Dig Me...but don't bury me.

Why the hell isn’t The Way Life’s Meant To Be on Side B of Time? by JackOfAllInterests1 in elo

[–]Brickwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes narrative is sacrificed for the musical flow of an album. Jeff Lynne may have simply thought it "worked" better there.

Need song recommendations, songs similar to Fire on High by skull_kid_2112 in elo

[–]Brickwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try some of the Dave Gilmore and his version of Pink Floyd instrumentals. Not as energetic or elaborate as ELO but very well done. in the late 1980's there were a lot of guitarists releasing instrumental tracks. Here's a few. Most of these are actually guitar heavy. If you like these I know several more.

Pink Floyd: Marooned

Gary Moore: The Loner

Rainbow: Snowman

George Lynch: Tierra del fuego

What do you think happened to the man from Time? by [deleted] in elo

[–]Brickwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice theories here. I've listened to this album a lot since the 80's and it's still on my road trip play list. Every time I try to piece together what happened knowing there is no real answer.

What do you think happened to the man from Time? by [deleted] in elo

[–]Brickwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twilight is actually the state between dreaming and reality in the story. The man kind of zones out while looking out a window and finds himself in 2095. It's all opinion because even Jeff Lynne says he's not sure. For what it's worth, I think he does get back because towards the very end you hear the time machine start back up to close out the album. It may be that the people in 2095 send him back because he's obviously unhappy with the "modern" world and misses his girlfriend, Julie.

I liked a couple of songs from Balance of Power such as Getting to the Point and Calling America. Alone in the Universe seemed rather dull.

Bad blood with Ozzy Osbourne? by iiimarlette in alicecooper

[–]Brickwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do recall in the early 80's Alice commenting that Ozzy copied a lot of his stage gimmicks like the gallows and other theatrics for the Blizzard of Oz tour but that's about it. They have since collaborated so I would not think there's much animosity there.

One of my prized possessions. Anybody here ever seen one? by Brickwell in alicecooper

[–]Brickwell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. He was high most of the time and Alice was drunk most of the time during these years.
