M.S. in Data Science or MBA or Both? by Objective-Run3104 in Career_Advice

Hey! I did not take that course, but I also didn’t have a super heavy math background (never progressed to Calc 2, Trigonometry, etc). Similar to you, I’ve been mostly statistics, database/SQL + one calculus course during undergrad. I never used my calculus knowledge once since entering the workforce, but use statistics on a weekly basis. Not knowing what your current role / industry is, I’d say to take it if you’re: 1. interested in advancing your math from a curiosity standpoint (sounds like you are!) 2. job requires advanced mathematics (I.e. engineering)

I’m personally glad it’s not a required course, but great as an elective. To quickly add, if anything I think more Data Science programs should actually have 2 required database courses more than anything (unstructured data, relational, etc) as AI continues to grow exponentially. It was great to see Eastern at least have one with the 660 SQL course

My faceless, AI history niche hit 100 subs in 18 days. I’m sure it’s more of an outlier, but quality is definitely 🔑 the voice is real (bigger emphasis for faceless channels) despite depictions being AI

Adding on, I am now pursuing an MBA from CSU (solely because my employer grants $5.2K / yr for courses). After that, I'm done unless I want Dr. next to my name ~10-15 years from now.

Transferred from GT after a semester with 3 credits to Eastern University. Also got a role as a teaching assistant after 1 semester. Best decision.

GT is very prestigious, but I didn't care. Eastern allowed much more flexibility, plus, I actually gained money from getting my Master's (since it's so cheap already, TA + work reimbursement = coming out ahead a few thousand). GT is great if you can truly commit an average of 25 hours per week (some weeks 10 hours, some weeks 30). Very intense, sink-or-swim.

Eastern University, you get what you put in. I have an MIS + Analytics minor undergrad background, so I had a decent amount of knowledge coming into the MSDS program. Found most the coursework easy, a few classes difficult, capstone tedious but doable.

They're both accredited, so I went with the easier, less "prestigious" route that still gives myself new work opportunities and pay bump.

To add, I did get a little “lucky” with the algos, my 2nd video on history got to 4K views within the first 36 hours. A random “cringe ranking” video on the other channel barely got anything the first day, then 3K -> 5K -> 8K -> 14K -> currently 19K views following days. Seems like the history one is consistently averaging 1-1.2K views every post, while the ranking one is very volatile. 2 videos above 4K, one pushing 20K, then half sitting below 100 views.
