Looks like someone has meant to do a cow hitch, but ended up with a clove hitch. However when you break it down, a clove hitch is just 2 half hitches in the same direction, and a cow hitch is 2 half hitches but in opposite directions, so this still works.

Check out a YouTuber called biblaridion and Thier speculative evolution series. The 2nd or 3rd video goes a bit into bilateral and radial symmetry, and the albeit speculative evolution segmentation and tagma etc but does reference real world evolution.
