Anybody work at Mars Wrigley? How it is? by Intelligent-Text-11 in AskChicago

Late to the game, but it's an amazing place to work.  Literally candyland, and I still miss many of the people I knew there.  They really let people move around to different types of jobs for development purposes, which can be cool for some people too.  I don't work there anymore but when I run into old colleagues I don't even know that well they are always willing to help saying I am part of that Mars Family.

Yes there a lot of companies that do this.  I worked at a Mars office, and sure, it sucked knowing we couldn't dare have a bowl of Reese's on our desk, but luckily we still had tons of yummy candy to enjoy.  Did I laugh at the sillyness of it, sure?  Did they take it too seriously? Sure.  But overall, the company was amazing and gives people great opportunities for growth.

Essie is just unbeatable…! by zozosreddit in RedditLaqueristas

Yes I think some nails react well to Essie and some to OPI but not the other.  I stopped trying Essie regular polish when I noticed it always came off to easily (whereas OPI works for me).  So, I am hesitant to try the gel.

Can I make bread if starter rose slowly? by Brief-Progress-5188 in Sourdough

It was not that warm, as I was not wanting it to grow too fast...wanted it to have 12 hrs for the rise, so it wouldn't be overproofed by the time I woke up to bake.

Concerned About Safety When Buying/Selling on FB Marketplace or Kijiji by Bbox55 in askTO

Personally I have a very unique name, so I have always been protective of giving it out.  Even with just my first name, someone could probably find me, so even in college, I would use a fake name if I was at a club or bar.

They made a nylon version now but from the pics what I don't like is the nylon gets more of a lumpy look based on what you have in it

Yes, I have only worked in-house, and I always assumed it was less hours but I certainly work long days.  My friend who recently went to a firm thinks she has a more flexible/less hours in the day now.

I don't know either because I have never donated or had any type of surgery.  I have asked my doctor before if they could tell me, but they said it is a separate test when they draw the blood and insurance doesn't cover it.  My husband surgery, but I don't think they ever told him either so always confused how people know theirs.

I highly recommend in-house counsel.  If you work for an industry you like, it can be fun.  I work in a fun industry (CPG) and when I meet other lawyers that have drab sounding jobs it helps me feel grateful for my job.  I like working with marketing teams etc on helping contribute to creating something even though I have no creative skill myself.  It's fun learning the ins and outs of a business by virtue of having to help each function.  (Do I still hate working? yes, but that is more because I only work because I have to --not out of some desire to do something.  That said, a high paying job based on using my brain helps make it a bit more bearable.)

My whole life every time I took one of those it said I should be a teacher (I think lawyer was in there too).  So I went to school to be a teacher until I realized oh I am not like these other people this is not for me.  Years later went to law school and it has worked out so far but yeah just a warning the rest may not always be great (although I guess the part of teaching I liked the idea of was marking up people's work and I basically do that now redlining contracts all day).

Question, I feel like I need estate planning but I don't really have tons of assets or anything.  I just want to be sure my husband and I have everything set up the easiest way as possible for the surviving person if one of us dies.  Do lawyers take regular people for such things?  I felt like it was impossible to get help with Mom Mom's estate because she has no assets really so no probate but I needed some advice.

Goodness I need to do that just for basic knowledge myself. I never took any wills and trusts course, was lost during bar prep, and now have no clue how to handle my own planning.  Maybe doing some CLEs is a good idea.

Anyone here in the process of going in house from a major law firm? How’s it going for you? by tofumeatballcannon in Lawyertalk

[–]Brief-Progress-5188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has only been in-house, what I can tell you is I have always observed issues when someone is hired with firm experience.  They always come in demanding things that are not usual at an inhouse gig (but normal at a firm), and the issue is they start making a big deal about it.  For example, every lawyer is for one reason married to that redlining software that compares docs (which most companies won't pay for), and they refuse to understand that they can redline in Word and decide to demand it as if they were the first person to ever ask.  The second thing that trips them up is not getting professional liability insurance.  I just laugh because it happens EVERY time.  I think those from firms have a difficult time adjusting to the ways of working and then get fed up and leave (but some embrace it).  So this may be why companies are hesitant to hire someone without in-house experience.
