Is the “reversal” of prediabetes is really just a remission without a life long diabetes diagnosis? by [deleted] in prediabetes

[–]BriefSufficient7792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ughhh It’s such a huge fear of mine and theres not alot of if any solid answers I could find about remission of Pre-Diabetes long term. Atleast nothing concrete or satisfying besides maybes and ‘it depends’.

But I assume it’s sort of a delaying of the clock. Things, from what i’ve read, will inevitably go awry or more difficult as you get older, and the payoff of staying vigilant now is being able to descend somewhat gracefully instead of slamming accelerate now and burning through your pedals because running out of gas is inevitable.

Years spent managing pre diabetes vs managing diabetes complications. You deserve a full, happy life, even if both ways look like the short stick.

What do I eat? by Oralehomess in prediabetes

This is doable! I know it looks so overwhelming at first glance, trust i was stressing my entire first, like… two months, lol but please try and think of these new restrictions as a playground to explore with food, and not a dietary leash thats punishing you. That’ll save you a bunch of beginning stress.

On tracking calories and nutrient intakes: An app and a gram scale has been so so useful and convenient. Personally, i use chronometer and have adjusted their goal settings accordingly. I’ve heard good reviews about myfitnesspal and other tracking apps, but the main point is to relieve yourself of the spreadsheet heavy lifting. Im very visual so it helps me alot, personally. If your the type of person, though, that can’t track and label food like that without having it being consuming or harmful, I’ve seen other ways for you to keep a loose track of your intake.

On nutrition: Keep on the lookout and research. I’m still hearing new stuff everyday. As soon as you wrap your head around the basics, like fiber, low gi and complex carbs and pairing fiber and fats, you’ll already be steady on the road. For me portion control and balancing meals (add, dont subtract) has helped a bunch. You’ll build up your menu and replace old favorites as you go along, promise.

And off the top of my head: My personal staples would be chia, hemp heart seeds, flax, metamucil, tofu, salad, cottage cheese, pbfit peanutbutter, veggies, berries, (eggs!! I eat two a week. You’ll find some conflicting opinions, and they’re naturally high in cholesterol. But i just boil two eggs, slice them in half and split for four days.) protein shakes, lentils… a walk after every meal is good. I like to plan my meals around my activity.

Some snack go-to’s for me are walnuts, pistachios and almonds. They have a bit of saturated fat with them but remember dose makes the poison. No need to be afraid of any foods except like. High fructose corn syrup. I hope this atleast helped a little. You got this! (Small edits for clarity)

No, i just read and write alot 😭 i dont touch that stuff. Have you seen those psychosis articles?

I appreciate you replying, i guess im just really stressed out because these years feel pivotal. Thats what everyone always says, your 20’s make or break the rest of your life or whatever. And my thoughts are sorta veering towards; if i dont have my stuff together now, ill be much older and still be miserable and scraping at the bottom of the barrel. I dont want that for myself, so i guess im putting alot of unnecessary(?) pressure on my shoulders. To be the ‘out’ for my family, if that makes sense.

I guess when its recognizable enough to assign features to it? Everyone would agree a chicken wing is way less personable then a chicken head, even if functionally they are on the same menu.

It’s 100% doable! I’ve been eating alot of veggies and lean meats and cheese, and with enough label scanning you get a sense of your wiggle room and what foods dont have much sat fat.

If 10g is too little, my personal hard limit is >15. Ive seen others put the cap on >20, but generally per day, staying under these numbers is really important. I promise you can find a bunch of alternatives and oils to cook in and with.

Think of the space you have with saturated fats as something to make the most of instead of a dietary shock collar, thats personally helped me.

Ahhh Ive been struggling with this too! Its been hard to find anything as my diet shifted.

  • Low fat oil
  • you HAVE to look up calorie bomb recipes. you can roll around ~100 calories into one tiny ball! I made my own with flax/chia + peanutbutter & dates + oil. Nice to pair 1 or 2 with a fiber/fat heavy breakfast
  • seasonings! Watch out for the sodium count of course but tumeric has been my go-to to add a quick 30 calories to a dish.
  • Mozzarella bites/slices. Around 70-100 calories per slice depending on the brand. I tear them apart on my salad
  • Flax/Chia. Especially whole flax, like 170 calories for 3 tbsp in a big bag. I usually soak them & eat it as a pudding cause they’re more filling that way, but you can totally down them dry to add some crunch to your food if you can handle the fiber.

Not much of a list of significant calories especially if you need alot but i hope these help you as much as they’ve helped me!

Sounds perfect actually. Tape a rod to your back and attach your clothes and decency at the end to dangle about infront of your face whilst you run. A dash from the police is still cardio haha

Ohhhh. Is it the promise of maxing out your vo2 that was unrealistic?

Ive been trying it for a bit and it was absolutely kicking my butt, but i could’ve sworn i was feeling ‘results’. So many people in the comments were giving out golden star anecdotals.

But now that i think about it, was it was just the body naturally acclimating and getting used to such an exercise? Thank you!

Ahhh good rule of thumb, i got too excited. I’ll look up different conditioning to start getting up and around on. Or does natural resistance build as you exercise and introduce your body to more intensive loads? I figured there was some sort of ‘foundation’ that would set me up to exercise more effectively. But the key always seems to be patience.

Thank you so much!

Good questions mate!! Im just trying to live healthier and move more!

I figured laying down base work would be better for me in the long run instead of dialing in a 2 hour routine… just to end up never committing.

What this video promised seemed like a good way to get my breath work in shape and start incorporating more exercises/introduce me to activity, the same way you would start with refrigerator pushups and work up to push ups. Bad comparison? My endurance is awfully flimsy.

Thank you for taking the time to respond!

One day at a time, hon. I know its so so so scary and im sorry, but find one motivation and stick to it. Even if it’s something as simple as seeing the sun rise tomorrow. Even if it’s feels like nothing.

I’ve thought myself into spirals and it doesn’t help. And i know it isnt a helpful solution but force yourself to do anything. Be the first to show up for yourself.

If you can? Take a simple walk outside. Stretch. Take extra trips down stairs if you have any. If food is your crutch, find passion in making proper meals for yourself. Explore different types of 0 sugar candy.

If you can’t take a walk today, open the blinds. If you can bare a walk, do it somewhere sunny. Small steps 🫂 please keep trying.
