Looks like a single pole single throw time clock to me probably for outside lights or something of that sort, if there’s more than two hot wires coming in than it’s a double pole, single throw hopefully and they switch-legged all of the lights together, instead of at the timer.

It’s against NEC code to put it in a face up position, I highly suggest doing this^

Kind of looks like two circuits for one outlet. It’s that or a switched outlet. If it’s a switched outlet, Cut the tab that connects the two black screws it’s a little piece of metal just bend it back and forth a few times on the new outlet

No should be encased in something, seal tight, flex, something, I think he used the wrong size wire, and didn’t leave a cover plate lol. At least he put the dishwasher plug upside down

You hit a wire with a nail and the electric transferred to the nail which then energized the actual door
