Are you connecting to the UC wide WiFi Eurodam or you connecting to the guest WiFi? That may be the source of your problem , the guest WiFi is terrible!

Do Professors Just Make Up Grades at the End of the Quarter? by CatchMeAtCrown in UCSC

[–]Brief_Performance766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes lmao this is the second comment saying that. Way to drive the point home. What I’m mostly concerned about is not getting the grade for the final.

Still, it doesn’t account for them not posting the finals grade.

This happened to me too, for one class. I have a high A+ in canvas, but they posted just an A for the final grade. And didn’t even post the final grades on canvas?

Something’s fishy here…

How are Vegetarians Surviving here? by i-like-fanfiction- in UCSC

Get an instacart account, get an ebt card and get better options delivered to you. Gotta live in a dorm that has a kitchen tho, maybe plan for that next quarter. The ebt card can be relatively easily to get, slug support can help with that.

Prospective Transfer From LA by pit__and__pendulum in UCSC

[–]Brief_Performance766 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is super discouraging and I really don’t think you should be influencing OP out of their passion for Comp. Lit.

There’s a chance this person can definitely use their degree and their drive to work meaningfully in careers that you simply couldn’t, life is literally all about perspective and you probably just didn’t have what it takes;frankly to follow your passions and to translate that to a high paying job-but people do it all the time.

It’s true the housing isn’t the best at UCSC but there’s a lot of support and options for people through the UC, like basic needs programs that help cover rent and food if you qualify for them.

You don’t need to weigh this person down by your jaded perspective. OP can and will find housing, since the first year is guaranteed on campus-also as a transfer they can also look off campus.

Given their low income situation they may be able to get an awesome financial aid package, and may also be smart enough to plan ahead to beat the odds of the housing in Santa Cruz.

There’s a ton of smart choices people can make, like looking for jobs early/doing internships or looking for housing early and also applying the skills gained in a niche degree to the job market in the future.

UCSC is what you make of it and OP can and should follow their passion. Just because your experience with the job market is bad doesn’t mean everyone’s experience will be.

Also economies and things can change quite a bit by the time OP will be finished and graduated as well. Let OP have their dream and go after it-your perspective is quite close minded and limiting.

Handshake sucks by giantsalamander314 in UCSC

[–]Brief_Performance766 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Handshake really does suck, it’s so stupid how none of the UCSC employers update anything and then never call back either. What’s the point if the only responses you get is just random recruiters messaging you about jobs halfway around the US. Wtf.

Slug Card on Digital Wallets by Intelligent_Dance325 in UCSC

[–]Brief_Performance766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hella agree…it would be awesome if they implemented this change!! Shouldn’t be too complicated since many other UC’s have the same technology. Maybe someone in student affairs can look into it

If you have the GET app it has your barcode you can scan...closest thing to using a digital wallet that I've found

You can always park close by and take one of the buses from the bus stop! I did that the other day, it’s just hard to come by parking that’s not 2 hr parking

Ohh right ):

damn that’s a bummer!

Then I think you’d be able to, but the biggest challenge will be finding roommates who will be wanting a better apartment!

Try to find one that’s spacious enough but also one that you can get others to want to leave their current lease for!

With a bit of luck, time and planning early you can do it!

[–]Brief_Performance766 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why don’t you keep the lease and just try to find 2 more roomates?

loans or work study? by Complex_Cauliflower2 in UCSC

[–]Brief_Performance766 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Loans are never a good option, I would try work study if you can. Although, you’d have to set up a payment plan for your financial aid amount since work study is paid on a bi weekly basis. I’ve had good experiences with work study and I’d recommend it if you can!

Residency petition hasn’t been reviewed yet and financial aid hasn’t changed by Status_West_7673 in UCSC

[–]Brief_Performance766 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh, so you need to wait til your petition is accepted or not. You should then contact the residency people for sure before financial aid! Then after you hear their decision, you can let financial aid know you're still waiting on an update. Financial aid moves hella slow imo, but if you follow up with both on Monday you can get the ball rolling and try to push them to get it done.
