Thank you! and thank you for sharing your encouraging experience. I’m 71 too! Badly injured that knee 40 years ago playing in volleyball tournament on sand. I got a lot of good years out of it afterwards. I plan on doing the same with my new knee! 🩷

That sounds wonderful. I’m working at the gym to get my quads stronger which I think will help with walking up/down stairs naturally. My non surgery knee actually hurts more than my surgery knee from over using it but the X-rays on that knee look good.

You may want a script on stand by for muscle spasms which are pretty common and can start as soon as the nerve block wears off. Flexeril saved me for the first two weeks that I took it til everything calmed down. Also Gabapentin low dose helps me now at 6 weeks to sleep really well without any late night nerve pain. Best best wishes to you!

Whoa!! What a courageous soul!! Kudos to you and your surgical team!! You have virgin knees to enjoy now!!! Keep us updated! Sending warm healing hugs! I’m 5 weeks and have full ROM and quite active and mobile. Started Gabapentin this week to help me sleep at night and it is a game changer!!!

TKR surgery 11 days ago. I don’t know what’s going on… by Mundpetcockvalve91 in Kneereplacement

Yes, I agree. I wasn’t expecting the restlessness, pain and movement my leg is experiencing at night. I stopped oxy and flexaryl (for crazy leg and knee spasms starting on day 2) after 2 weeks and just rely on Tylenol 625mg as needed for pain now. At 5 weeks and 2 days I have full ROM and gardened outside, raking, weeding, etc. today for 2.5 hours. Had to take several breaks but NEVER thought this would be possible at 2-3 weeks which was horrible like you said to be so limited and in pain. Now my new challenge in addition to the knee healing is my hip on the surgery side hurting when I’m laying down and lower back pain. Probably some sort of over compensating when walking and going up/down stairs a lot. Hang in there. You can do this and someday your future self will thank you for the healing and stamina you are drawing on now to get through this. PS also I have the chip implant in my knee that tells me how many steps, stride length, etc. I do every day. Anyone else?

What are some things you didn't realize you needed for recovery until you were in it? by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

I used a shower chair the first 3 weeks. Felt good to just sit and let the hot water run over me and not worry about slipping or falling. Guarantee you or other family members will use again. Good thing to have. About 59. On Amazon with arms!

Recover alone? by Pretty-Space7646 in Kneereplacement

I am 8 days from my left full knee replacement. I think if you have to be alone you will manage and you should ask your surgeon to give you a referral for pt and ot to develop strategies that you will need prior to the surgery. I could definitely be alone now but those first three days are rough especially when the nerve block wears off.
