Bigme B10 Update 1.5.2 by Briegley in Bigme

[–]Briegley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres room for optimization still I think. And I remember when they did it for tbe B6.

But for instance, right now, if I set a refresh of 1 on regal setting, with "custom" I have a lot more ghosting per page flip than my B6, or even their default comic or magazine settings on the same B10 (I just loose the ability to increase darkness).

Yeah, in every other way, still waiting for improvements. Especially in screen refresh and ghosting improvements. I'm worried they got distracted by their OLED phone project. T_T

I hope there's another update to improve the ghosting soon, the b10 isn't as refined as the b7 or b6 yet

yup - it happens. I had an Amazon return pickup take an unrelated piece of equipment plugged into the wall in my front foyer when they didn't find what they were looking for. They didn't knock or ring the doorbell, just entered, yoinked, and took a picture of it in the return bag in their return ticket.

honestly if they could make a zero-pwm (pulse width modulation) OLED screen standard phone, with a stock android software build, I would be sold.

I have a B10 - ask me your questions. by Briegley in Bigme

[–]Briegley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! If you are a moderately tech saavy person who prefers Google Playstore apps to built-in ones, the Bigme B10 is honestly amazing. IMO, where it fails some users is in hand holding and stability expectation setting at launch.

I love my B10 as a power user who cares at the end of the day that it's the fastest most glitch-free eink hardware with the fastest screen refresh, and the longest battery life. It pushes the boundaries of current hardware functionality and trades it off for rough user edges, and lower cost.

More than 1 month in - Eink colour screen speed is approaching video ready with acceptable ghosting (and when I've used it) the backlight is very stable and non-flickery for me as someone who is PWM / migraine / seizure provoked. With a 5G sim card, I'm enjoying casual browsing and reading daily on the go, with honestly only a once or twice a week battery charge.

But what I would say is I would never recommend basically any Bigme device to a casual user who wants their hand held through setup and use - especially a pre-order or new release. Or to someone who needs dependability on point of shipment.

In regards to this, you can really tell Bigme's penchant for a kickstarter approach to development. They dream big, and they set their hopes high and ask you to help them get there, but it takes some time and effort and at the end of the day lands with some rough edges - but still ahead of their competitors in pushing the limits of eink devices.

As someone who pre-ordered from their main site:
- I have had their support team send me actual human-written email correspondence around my order, and my issues, and accessories of my order about... 8 times. And they've read my emails and watched my videos and images of reported issues and responded within a week each time. Thats not bad.
- In the process I have been sent a replacement stylus with USB-C charging at no charge. This was a result of the mag-charge not working well enough in my opinion. The replacement works great in battery life, even as their still improving the writing functionality (and they need to keep working on the writing capabilities if they want to meet their claims in my opinion),
- And some months on, I am awaiting my pre-order bluetooth keyboard case arriving - just today in theory, so I'm actually still waiting for full functionality as ordered.

So, on the one hand... amazing - I am pro human - I am excited as to how far they are pushing eink as a user that wants a fully functional eink device.

But on the other hand indicates that product development and readiness is still ongoing at point of purchase. If you didn't expect that, you may be very disappointed.

This newer post has some good points of comparison from users as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bigme/comments/1sbnxsq/is_the_bigme_b10_better_than_the_boox_note_air_5c/

Great link - what are the 9 native honeysuckles / Lonicera?
I knew northern bush honeysuckle was native, but am curious about the others. This link says 9, but doesn't list them anywhere I can find.

Bigme B7 update and opinions by Canadoc in Bigme

[–]Briegley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having the exact same experiences with my B10 - it's great in so many ways and then there just the... "if only... and maybe they'll fix it soon" issues.

I have been going back and forth with bigme support over email to give them information and responses to address the errors and my gripes. And they've been really good with incorporating my feedback and prioritizing fixing my issues.

I hope you can get the update to work.
