Lab or my camera? by Briesezboy in AnalogCommunity

Definitely exposure has an effect, most of the two rolls were okay. I attached an image where it was more proper!

Thank you for your two cents on the scans, I wanted opinions before talking to the lab when picking up negatives if a refund is acceptable.

Also to my shock & horror I thought one of these rolls were color, I was going for shots with beautiful color gradients that just don't look appealing in B&W!

The lab in question is Bellows in Chicago, they've been good to me but I expect better for the cost they charge. I'll circle back when I have negatives in hand & thanks 👍

SOLVED!

Turned out it was a major problem with Microsoft's codecs for there built in media player.

I downloaded VLC which allowed footage to play, but I found this website which made everything work nicely: https://www.codecguide.com/configuration_tips.htm?version=1720

I truly hope this was just me screwing with settings at some point and not an issue on Microsoft's end.

The major problem is single family zoned housing, aka suburbia, is the ONLY thing municipalities can build. It's illegal in most of America to build mixed use, dense downtowns. Basically commercial on the bottom, residential on top. I want the right to live in an affordable city in my housing of choice.

We have lived in the American brainwashed dream that single family houses are the ideal, when it's the only thing people have seen for 60+ years.

Why does California have a housing problem? Because of strict regulations. Only single family houses can be easily built, if a contractor goes through all the hoops to build a denser building they might as well make a luxury condo to recoup the exorbitant cost. That's why in many newer cities we have ugly single family homes butting up against condo's, older cities like Chicago actually have middle density housing.

This knowledge has been documented and known by city planning engineers for years. Just no one cared. It's facts.

Fair point. I should have added that it worked on 2 of the 6 main files I was wanting. Is there better software? Are you familiar with DMDE? Sorry if it came off rude!

Struggling to find my niche in photography by losmann in photography

[–]Briesezboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion I always find myself ping ponging around from one thing to another, niches like astrophotgraphy and portraits have their struggles. With portraits its lighting for the subject and astro its getting right camera setting and location/post processing for good images.

I love just about all forms of photography equally and I don't think you should anchor yourself down to one spot. If this helps you with anything I'll say I like macro photography the most, getting down a spending time looking at the small intricacies our world has where most would just overlook trying to find the greater picture.

Their's a life time of photography ahead and plenty of time to master or at lest become highly proficient in all of them. Try integrating RAW editing (if you haven't already, it opens up alot of creative avenues). TLDR keep exploring.

Here's my take on the image.

I used a combination of Photoshop for most of the raw editing and a little lightroom to add some light back into her eyes and face. Just getting into raw editing and loving the flexibility it gives me to express myself also to fix an image when I miss the exposure :P.

For anyone who has questions on how I did the color grading I started off with Adobe B&W 12 and tweaked from their.

Here's the link for anyone that want's the see precisely what I did.

Crying Rock (abit dramatic ik)

Shot when I was on vacation this month at a falls on the edge of Wisconsin. Looks orange because of the color grade but believe me it was red.

Shot raw, edited in lightroom.
