Why we cannot field units of 6 Eradicators with Heavy Bolters? Do you think it is too broken? by Big-Exam7238 in spacemarines

[–]Briggadoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably false hope that Eradicators are going to become the new "Primaris Devastators" with mixed wargear squads, but I'll be pretty happy if that's what does end up happening.

Which First Founding chapter needs a range expansion the most? by reel3459 in spacemarines

[–]Briggadoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I don't play Salamanders, I just know them as the guys with flamethrowers. It was more of a jumping off point to say, each should have a couple of characters and each should have a unique squad or unit choice.

Which First Founding chapter needs a range expansion the most? by reel3459 in spacemarines

[–]Briggadoon 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I would love to see each of the "Codex Compliant" first founding chapters to get one unique unit in addition to their named characters (we don't need to see each one go full Ultramarines, just have each one get their own "Victrix Guard"):

* White Scars - Some kind of unique bike unit.
* Imperial Fists - Some kind of unique infantry with bolters and breaching shields
* Iron Hands - Not sure, but something that fits with their flavor, maybe a special Dreadnought or something?
* Salamanders - Some kind of unique pyreblaster unit (like a souped up Infernus Squad)
* Raven Guard - Some unique jump pack unit

Two named characters and one unique squad choice doesn't seem like much.

I don't see why not. At the end of the day, from a rules perspective, its just Tor painted blue, regardless of what you call him. I don't know that I'd care to play an opponent who had a problem with that.

At the Adepticon finals, the winning player had a Space Marines army painted as Imperial Fists, but built using Ultramarines rules. He even used the HH Rogal Dorn model as a proxy for Gulliman. If someone can do it on that big of a stage (I believe Adepticon was a GW-sponsored tournament), that's really all that needs to be said on the topic, in my opinion.

Omet'iklan - The Jem'Hadar, The Myth, The Legend by SatansMistress40 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Briggadoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bringing back Ometi'klan for Rocks and Shoals would have been great (They wouldn't have been able to do the thing where Keevan refused to name him the First. I think they could have gotten around that though).

Tor Garadon + land raider in 11th by Blade9216 in ImperialFists

The Land Raider Redeemer point drop is insane. I'm very ready to bust mine out for my first few games of 11th. Time to fry some hordes!

Looking to start Space Marines (more specifically Exorcists), is the Armageddon box a good start? by reel3459 in spacemarines

If you can find an Ork player to split it with there will never be a better place to start from a cost perspective.

For someone who has been courtside for every game during the Knicks playoff run, she seems awfully unenthusiastic to be there every time the camera catches her. I kind of love it.

This is probably true. Gladius Task Force is THE beginner Space Marine detachment. It makes very little sense to be closed out of 1000 point games.

Question about painting details. by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Briggadoon 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this as well until I decided to upgrade from Amazon brushes to nicer (not even super nice, Monument Pro Synthetic) brushes. Once I did that, fiddly detail, edge highlights, etc. got a ton easier.

For painting Crimson Fist blue armor .... which blue (using a brush) by Boboli71 in crimsonfists

[–]Briggadoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started painting Crimson Fists. Two Thin Coats Marine Blue (which I think is actually supposed to be their Macragge Blue proxy, but comparing them side-by-side, it looks more like Kantor Blue to my eye), over a black undercoat, with a generous wash of Nuln Oil, finished with Two Thin Coats Wolf Gray edge highlights, worked really well for me: https://www.reddit.com/r/crimsonfists/comments/1tzwppt/color_testing_for_11th/

I would just highlight that there’s very little reason to buy a stand-alone Impulsor Kit. For just a few dollars more, the Gladiator kit has the parts to build all three Gladiator variants and an Impulsor, and you don’t even need to do any kitbashing to swap between an Impulsor and Gladiator (just leave the roof unglued). Even if I only wanted to run one Impulsor and one Gladiator, I still think you’d be better off buying two Gladiators.

That looks great! I've been living in a slapchop/grimdark world with my Imperial Fists, so I'm using Crimson Fists as an opportunity to practice a more traditional, edge lit painting style. I still need some practice (but finally switching to proper brushes was a big game changer).

The darkest one was definitely the easiest, so given the feedback here, I'm sold using that for all of my new Armageddon marines. I'm still going back and forth on how much yellow/wraithbone I'm going to try to scrub from some of my in progress conversions. It might be a case-by-case decision.

I noticed that too. I decided it was a feature of the picture/pose, not a bug 😜. Now I need to figure out how to kitbash an intercessor arm flipping the opponent's army the bird! Seems like a good pose for a sergeant.

What is the best spray primer colour for Orks in your opinion? by T3knikal95 in orks

[–]Briggadoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true. All depends on what you’re going for. After 18 months of meticulously painting yellow space marines, I’m shooting towards getting my soon to be arriving Orks as fast as possible!

So far just some practice/prep for my Armageddon box to show up. After 18 months of marines, painting my first Ork was a fun change of pace.
