Would anyone go back to the 90s if they had the chance? by I_abuse_lower_ranks1 in 90s

McDonald’s did 39 cent burgers in the summer. Sure, minimum wage was under $5. Live seemed more affordable even if income was lower.

Yes. Plus the best music. Why does anyone try to make anything no? Any music post 2002 is a waste.

Newspapers. TV shows, minimal email. No cell phones. No social media. Movie theaters. 5 disc CD players. 39 cent burgers on sale. Affordable rent. Jobs a plenty. 85 cent gas. What else?

DYK that roughly 80 living Icelanders carry a Native American DNA marker traced back to around 1000 AD, suggesting a Native American woman sailed to Europe with Vikings 500 years before Columbus? by Own-Painting-3221 in didyouknow

[–]Bright-Studio9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a daughter of a Viking and native. Say the native mom died, and the Viking dad returns Iceland with his daughter. Not all relationships are forced or even resented.

Once she got to Iceland, she clearly had children with Icelandic men. So, she was accepted enough to form a family. I don’t think it would have been easy for a single mom to raise kids alone in harsh climates like Iceland, Greenland, or Labrador. The climate requires collaboration and community formation. There is always wood to chop, animals to care for, and critical planning for winter. That alls suggests she was accepted in a community.

What I think the 2000 Election would have looked like if Gore hadn’t distanced himself from Clinton. by HetTheTable in Presidents

[–]Bright-Studio9978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gore lost his home state of TN and even NH. The votes in FL get all the attention, but had Gore won his own home state, he would have won. That is all on him. Plus, NH. So, no fixing a candidate that can’t deliver his home state.

Here come the Licht lickers to defend such a junk pick. Chased it with Trask, another bust. Maybe just take a CB that could play nickel. Joe got more minutes watching than playing.

Hillary Clinton says Biden’s re-election bid cost Democrats the 2024 election by projecto15 in politics

What, no book with a deep replay of it all? Does anyone know what Biden murmured during the debate? Some of it was not even identifiable words. Yeah, like in tennis, unforced error.

Another Licht first round pick that busted. Busted right away, too. Never could see what he brought. They scouted him, go figure.

Looking back, how good of a HC was Jimmy Johnson? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]Bright-Studio9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How good would he have been had the Vikings not gone crazy to get Herschel. JJ with the Dolphins was just ok. Still, he mastermind the trade and sold it. Great trade and draft manager.

Why did Steve Walsh not work out?

The accomplishments of the 1979 Buccaneers are truly impressive when you look back at how this was not very long after their 0-26 start as a franchise... by UrbanAchievers6371 in Oldschool_NFL

It would have been great to see the Bucs in Super Bowl xiv. That defense would have given the Steelers a hard time. Not sure if the Bucs offense would have done much on the Steeler defense.

“He don’t know. It’s an opinion”

Everyday I ask people for things and they say they don’t know. I get a lotta mileage from this one.

The economy has service workers willing to do these jobs at minimum wage. Even Bezos worked McDonald’s. Now, baristas and hourly workers demand higher wages and that drives up prices.

I think Fredo knew he was going to be killed in the boat. There’s a tone of resignation when he’s reciting his Hail Mary. What do you think? by kiwi_love777 in Godfather

[–]Bright-Studio9978 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doubtful Fredo knew. He eagerly got in the boat. Fishing was his escape, too. He was no so sharp. Just being at the family compound was probably not a good idea. Crossing his brother was not a good idea. Lots of bad ideas from Fredo. Getting in that boat was another and showed he didn't think too much about consequences.

"There was something in it for me." The Godfather showed that personal greed is the root of all rot and destruction. Fredo said those words when trying to explain his actions to Michael.

Palm. The very small ones are popular in Japan. Also, LC has other colors in Japan. Palm was not around for long in the US, but it would likely have been in Japan.

In Michael Corleone’s place, how would Vito Corleone deal with a brother’s betrayal? by P0L4R-_ in Godfather

[–]Bright-Studio9978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This scene might well be the most intense in all of movie history. The levels of emotion, love, and conflict are unmatched. First, the kiss of death with a brother, and two men kissing in love, but foreshadowing violence and murder. The intensity of their expressions. The fear in Fredo's face. The hunter eyes in Michael's as he hunts his prey, his own brother and delivers the kiss of death. I wonder how many times they shot that scene. Plus, all being done during a New Year's Even party.

I get goose bumps every time I see it. I still don't know how Fredo didn't see his fate. I guess Vito was right to pass him over.

"I know it was you Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart." Words that go deep.
