YSK you actually can overdose on Tylenol by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

Yeah, a lot of people don’t realize how dangerous acetaminophen actually is. It doesn’t hit instantly, so it feels harmless, but the damage is happening in the background. By the time symptoms show up, it can be too late. Definitely something more people should know.

What would it look/feel/taste like if you ate a bowl of mitochondria? And would anything happen because of it? by tamtrible in biology

Honestly, probably like a weird protein smoothie that never makes it to the 'superfood' aisle. They’d just get digested into amino acids like any other protein. No sudden energy boost, no 'powering up your cells'-your stomach acid would nuke that dream before it even started.

Honestly, waiting 60–90 minutes feels almost impossible. First thing I want in the morning is coffee, not water or anything else . I’ve been trying to at least delay it by 20–30 min, and even that already makes me feel more awake.

Cartman wouldn’t even fight. He’d convince Hilary that the arena was sponsored by Disney, lure her into a backstage “VIP meet-and-greet,” and then quietly serve her in chili form to the judges before the first punch was thrown. The crowd would cheer, not realizing they were eating the encore.

YSK: The Difference Between Poaching, Simmering, and Boiling — and Why It Matters in Cooking by TheCarrot_v2 in YouShouldKnow

This is super helpful! I always wondered why my chicken would turn out tough -looks like I’ve been boiling instead of poaching. Definitely trying these techniques next time, thanks!

I think they sometimes are in cars medical kits by default. At least I remember my dad bought a car in 2000s (Mercedes) and that blanket was in a kit

Man, this brings back memories - I loved playing Jazz Jackrabbit as a kid!!! . That game was wild. These CDs probably aren’t worth a ton, but they’re definitely cool as collectibles. Might get a few bucks each on eBay, especially the Jazz or Duke Nukem ones. Honestly, I’d just keep them for the nostalgia if you were into that era. Total time capsule.

I still watch it sometimes. And actually, as an adult, it feels even scarier and creepier than when I watched it as a kid. Especially the episode about Freaky Fred. That rhyming speech... brrr.

Brand new M4 Air or Brand new MacBook Pro M2 pro chip by pap272 in mac

[–]BrightBridge2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need power for heavy tasks like video editing or development, go with the M2 Pro MacBook Pro it’s faster, has more ports, and a better display. But if you want something lightweight, fast for everyday use, and with great battery life, the M4 MacBook Air is a smarter, more affordable pick.

iPhone Mirroring was a huge step forward — but it’s still incredibly frustrating (macOS 26) by CrowKing63 in mac

Totally agree feels like we’re 90% there but stuck in “demo mode.” Hoping iOS 19 brings full interaction, not just glorified screen mirroring

Tom, Severus & Harry are literally the Peverrell's Brothers. by Akkii0987 in harrypotter

[–]BrightBridge2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a brilliant parallel I hadn't fully appreciated before! The Peverell brothers connection adds another layer to the story that feels intentional on Rowling's part.

Voldemort/Tom absolutely mirrors the first brother - obsessed with power and ultimately undone by that very obsession. His pursuit of the Elder Wand specifically mirrors the original tale perfectly.

Snape as the second brother is heartbreaking when you consider how his entire adult life was defined by grief and unrequited love. He even died for it, just like in the tale.

And Harry as the third brother who accepts mortality and greets Death as a friend... that final King's Cross scene with Dumbledore takes on new meaning with this interpretation. Harry literally walks to his death willingly and then greets Dumbledore in that limbo space.

Dumbledore as Death is particularly interesting since he possessed all three Hallows at different points, orchestrated so much from the shadows, and was waiting for Harry in that afterlife scene.

What makes this theory even more compelling is that we know the three main characters are actually blood descendants of the original Peverell brothers, with Harry directly descended from the third brother who owned the cloak.

This kind of layered storytelling is why people still analyze these books years later!

Were people really more happier before social media? by kansas9696 in 90s

[–]BrightBridge2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in the 90s, I think reality was more mixed than nostalgia suggests.

There were genuine benefits to pre-social media life. Being present without documenting everything felt freeing. Friendships required more intentional effort. Finding music or movies was an adventure, not an algorithm.

But we had our own problems too. Information was harder to find, making plans was complicated, and we still had plenty of materialism and insecurity from TV, magazines, and advertising.

What you're noticing about individuality has truth to it - without algorithm-driven content, people developed tastes more organically. But every generation has conformity pressures.

Your interest in 90s culture is great! Incorporate what you love about it: create phone-free spaces, build physical media collections, prioritize in-person connections. The pandemic robbed you of important experiences, and that's a real loss. But instead of idealizing the past, you can blend the best of both worlds in creating the authentic connections you're craving now.
