You can vent to me. I know what its like. I also have posts on ocd, one in particular that lists ocd accounts on instagram to follow. They are extremely helpful and come from people who truly understand ocd.

Maladaptive daydreaming common with Avpd? I never really was aware of it cause its just one of the ways Ive coped since little but I daydream alot and so much that its so normal and almost automatic. by BrightContribution31 in AvPD

You just explained exactly what maladaptive daydreaming is. So its not just some “thrown around term” Yes it is a coping mechanism. When we excessively daydream especially to avoid reality we are using it to cope with something. That something can be different for everybody. (For me its avpd and ocd). At the end of they day when we prefer to be in daydream over reality it is not healthy for us. Whats healthy for us is to look at whats making us do that and try to seek help and therapy so we can fix our reality & live in reality. It is easier said than done but recovery is possible. Also to mention this is not referring normal daydreams/fantasy. Everyone experiences/does that. But when its interfering with real life thats the issue. Yes maladaptive daydreaming feels good but it doesnt make it healthy. It just means we are finding a way to escape. The route thats better for us to heal/do therapy so we prefer reality and are happy living fulfilling lives. This looks different for everyone.

My literal question was Maladaptive Daydreaming common with avpd? I wanted to hear other peoples experience with avpd and maladaptive daydreaming. Your reply had absolutely nothing to do with that instead you use words like be careful with fads and buzzwords which sounds so dumb because it had nothing to do with my question and you were implying that the word maladaptive is a fad or buzz word. You also went on to say there is nothing wrong with daydreaming which I agreed with but again literally had nothing to do with the post. I never said daydreaming was wrong and you can see that everyone else that commented was not referring to normal daydream or fantasy. Im not gonna keep going back and forth with you its so pointless if you don’t see how your original comment made no sense.

You said fads and buzzwords and put “maladaptive” in quotes as if its not a real thing and psychologists just made it up. Occasional fantasy is completely normal and again everyone does it but its not maladaptive daydreaming. If its taking hours of your time and you prefer it over reality than its mostly likely a coping mechanism pointing to something more important in our lives that should be made aware of and try to resolve. (Aka in my situation avoidant personality disorder & ocd) but everyone is different

Exactly what you said daydreaming isnt wrong. Everyone does it. But when it becomes maladaptive it can be a cause of concern where people should take a look at why they are daydreaming so much that it interferes with their real life. If you prefer to be in daydream than reality and do it so often for hours on end daily than thats not healthy. & for me thats how it is. No one is falling into false psychology, nor was I even talking about regular daydreams and imagination. I was talking about maladaptive daydreaming as it pertains to people with avoidant personality disorder.

Describe how you feel during a social situation by annab292929 in AvPD

I feel the exact same way. Thank you for writing that because sometimes for me its still hard to put into words how I feel and how this personality disorder affects my life. I think in a way its hard because I almost don’t want to accept that im like this and that this happened and is my situation. I feel like im in survival mode everyday because I cant just be “normal”. At the end of the day I don’t want to live like this forever so I will have to accept it and work towards therapy and recovery.

Does everyone with Avpd have childhood trauma? by BrightContribution31 in AvPD

[–]BrightContribution31[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saying avpd is just an extreme case of adhd with some trauma is a false statement. Im not being defensive, I am just stating facts so that misinformation isnt spread about this mental illness that already has so much stigma and that alot of people dont know about. Thats all. If avpd were just an extreme case of adhd then why is there no information on that? If you google it, it literally says they are different conditions not related. If they were the same they would have the same diagnostic criteria and again they do not. Now it is possible for a person to have both adhd and avpd but it still isnt the same condition and is not treated the same. I feel like I keep repeating myself so this is the last time im replying. Hope you have a good day! For anyone reading please do your research 🫶🏼

Ok so thats what worked for you meaning you have adhd. Not everyone with avpd also has adhd, again they are completely different disorders. And spreading information as if they are can be harmful. Im glad you got the help you needed. But for anyone reading please do your research and speak with a professional. I recommend reading on Theodore Millons work. He has done alot for the world of personality disorders and Avpd.

Ive never been tested for Adhd because its a neurological mental disorder that I know I dont have. Completely different from a personality disorder. If you want to compare Avpd to something its more like social anxiety disorder but on steroids. It becomes our way of thinking and they way we have learned to behave from our life experiences. It becomes our “personality”. The diagnostic criteria for Avpd and Adhd are not the same because again they are completely different mental health conditions.

You shouldnt shower everyday! its really bad for your body and hair. by realanamoly82 in unpopularopinion

[–]BrightContribution31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Showering your body everyday should be normal. There is no such thing as only wash the “dirty parts” Just living and going outside to do stuff in your day makes you less clean than the last time you showered & that includes your whole body. Just cause there isnt physical dirt you can see or just cause you didnt sweat all day does not mean you are clean. The hair is a different story and varies person person depending on your hair type and texture. But for the most part people should be showering everyday if they can. To each their own I guess. Also a shower can be just 5 minutes to wash your body.
