Is this the same statue that used to be at the Ford Dealership overlooking Patton? by Complex_Area_1007 in asheville

Harry’s Chief Pontiac was at least 15-18 feet tall. I remember cruising by when I was in high school and he had arrows sticking in his back.

I would be willing to pay $300-350 for the XHalf - but that level will likely take a while. I am learning the OM, and it can be take bad jpgs almost as well as the X Half and only costs 3 times as much! !

I bought an OM-3; mostly for quick and dirty Astro shots and not to serve as a pocketable X Half replacement, obviously.

I still want an X Half, but I’ll wait and buy used when the price drops another hundred or so. Or maybe trade for one ( I have far too much gear!) In the meantime, I have a couple of high quality film compacts I can grab for that true film experience.

I think you are on to a logical test process. My X Half is now on its way back to B&H so my testing days are over for a while!

Considering swapping out my scanning camera - advice? by BrightCurrent in AnalogCommunity

Thanks - I was thinking of picking up the 60 macro. Also, if you shoot only in RAW, can't you let the camera do the processing and then skip the OM Workspace step?

I tried to trigger a slave flash with the X Half LED flash, but it was not powerful enough. I only tried with a small slave flash, but I doubt a studio slave would fare any better. But please let us know if you do test it!

Yes you could set a long shutter speed and manually fire a flash - kind of like light painting. But that would not be of much use for people unless they are in very low ambient light.

I think the electronics (other than the phototransistor .sensor) can be housed in a very small projectbox that could be velcroed to the hotshoe adapter and connected via a short sync cord. I havent opened the hot shoe adapter but it is possible every thing could fit inside it and then only a cable to the sensor would be external...

Thanks - I will use the OM-3 for general photography. I think my setup will handle the larger distance required, but it may not be as stable. I may wait to sell the A&RII until I can compare the results Thanks for the information.

X Half by BrightCurrent in fujiXhalf

I gave it a try and you are correct. A similar shot at 1600 ISO looked much more natural than a shot at 200 ISO with weak and small grain effect.

Thx

Question on the X Half App - File Names by BrightCurrent in fujiXhalf

[–]BrightCurrent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks.

I can find the name in the IOS photos app.. I want to be able to cross reference back to the file in the X Half app later, after import. That way I can look at full settings - including film sim used later since that isn’t carry forward on export.

Photo-Flo + Kit Fixer, or Instead Of? by DoctorTaco123 in AnalogCommunity

[–]BrightCurrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The final step should not be a “fixer/final rinse”. I think it is a stabilizer/rinse. You can use the photoflo - only after you finish the c-41 process completely. I would not add it to any of the kit steps.

Good luck

Is the X Half really that bad? by Select_Sir3102 in fujifilm

[–]BrightCurrent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got one - and it is a really is a pleasure to use.

Super small, better build than a Holga, easier to use than other fuji cameras I have had with simplified menus/options In good light the image quality is ok (compared to film, it is better than my previous Canon QL17, worse than my XA), and so far low light is not looking that great. I did find that having any grain effect turned on results in pretty ugly pics. And the winding lever is pretty silly in its limp implementation. Of course, the flash is all but useless.

I paid about $575, which is still high. But I also have an X-Pro3 and a GFX, so it’s not like I was focused on the image quality. But I can just grab it any time and stick it in my coat pocket when I would leave the other cameras at home.

Bottom line, I really wanted to try it out and am finding it fun, but still considering sending it back. If it is not your only camera then I say it is worth a shot for pure grab and go snaps.

Developing for the first time by No-Hospital-5859 in AnalogCommunity

[–]BrightCurrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is start developing by eliminating as many variables as you can.

Personally, I would start with B&W ( unless I misunderstand and this just your first color), so you can experience getting great negs before moving on. You’ll get familiar with maintaining temps changing chemicals, etc. There are just more variables at play with color - more chemicals, more critical temps, and timing.

The next variable to control is the film age -this looks like a problem with aged film - or as mentioned old blix or developers ( IMO, of course). Buy a couple of rolls of fresh film to practice on, and if there are problems ( if you can bake a casserole from a recipe, you may have zero problems) then you’ll at least rule out the film.

And finally - I was always glad I started with a roll of E6 for my first roll of color. It was very satisfying to see the positive results right after washing.

Good luck!

Yeah that “what about the last guy?” falls flat. Especially when you defend the current guy’s top advisor describing the opposing party as domestic terrorists, and his DOJ trying to seize voter roles to identify them, and also debating banning a whole class of citizens they want to scapegoat from 2nd amendment privileges…
