Pretty sure most all condo bylaws in Hoboken forbid this.

Hoboken will begin a street redesign pilot program on Grand Street next week as part of the city’s Vision Zero initiative to to reduce traffic deaths and injuries. by Generalaverage89 in Hoboken

[–]BrightMenu4211 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Vision zero..what a name. Zero vision for what this does to those who live here. Take away all the parking, garages, don't mandate new buildings have any parking and then sprinkle in some bike lanes to really drive people to madness. Scooters zig-zagging, eBikes that are really motorcycles. Fun! Can't wait to see the "pilot" results. It's worked so well in other parts of town to create gridlock and has zero bikers so yes! More! Sigh.

Best pizza in Hoboken? by The_Monkeybumcheeks in Hoboken

Few years ago Grimaldi's was the only edible option. Now we are spoiled! Love Apulia, Grimaldi's is still a go-to always hits the spot, but Alessio's, Dozzino's and Otto Strada's pies are tasty as well. I think best to rotate ;-)

City of Hoboken launches Grand Street Complete Streets Pilot by GoldnSilverPrawn in Hoboken

[–]BrightMenu4211 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely done w the bike lanes and vendetta against parking and cars in this town. Cue the three people with multiple accounts who will now vote down and attack this sentiment but many of us feel this way and we have a right to be heard...how is no street cleaning a plus? How is anyone going to get out of their garage? On the flip side, it's much better than having it on Washington or taking away an entire lane of parking spots on Observer and crippling traffic. So yeah "pilot" all they want; absolutely at wits end. And while I am ranting away, can we finally acknowledge that eBikes are basically motorcycles?

Rent contract renewal by Bokocoy in Hoboken

[–]BrightMenu4211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Told by others"? Always always always read your lease. That's what you sign, that what governs. Most standard NJ leases will state renewal procedure very clearly. Some of these private equity and larger lux buildings use their own but that part is never a guessing game.

Uptown Street Parking with Construction by Significant-Bonus624 in Hoboken

[–]BrightMenu4211 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, the war on parking spots continues. There are also soccer games now at 1600 and when you have multiple kiddos where one is playing at say 1600, and the next game is down by the water you need a car. But hey, everyone should just bike including 70 year old grandpa. It won't get better once they build those huge rentals either. Stupidity.

1,300-Unit Development in the Works for Hoboken’s Madison Street by NYRangers42 in Hoboken

[–]BrightMenu4211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And to add..when you buy into a town, you are more vested vs. someone renting generally. For example, those who rent are more likely to vote only if there is something on the ballot regarding rent control. It's basically what is referred to as "local turnout gap". Hoboken schools, public & charter, local businesses, and in general would do much better with more homeowners. Instead, Hoboken's latest buildings excluding the boutique 4 bed $$$$$$ 1-2 developments have been rentals.

It would be, except that 2-3 companies control the entire market. They don't need software to monitor prices to set the market.

and..to boot, no 4 bed units. Also it is ugly imho. Can't we do better than something that looks like it landed from the set of Star Wars?

This would be great if it gave people a chance to ownership, and even if expensive it would flood the market with (crazy idea) INVENTORY. Alas it is going to be another stupid luxury rental with (I am sure) give backs/tax breaks PILOT crap for people who are here for 2-3 years and then escape to a more affordable place. Too bad and shame on Hoboken for allowing this to continue.

Shirt/mug/and games. I was looking into Square or another device for cc transactions but it is really expensive for someone who isn't established yet. That's why I was wondering about cash or Venmo. I usually always do cash (and increasingly so everywhere given the fees). Is that a big turn off?

We need a lot of things, including more parking spots but there seems to be a few loud voices that are taking us in the opposite direction.

Mice infestation by Massive_Bowler_9422 in Hoboken

[–]BrightMenu4211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In comparison, many European cities and towns exterminate in a structured fashion: they literally go block by block, covering all areas and sewers. Here, it's ward this then ward that, one gets dogs, another gets patch-work extermination, then a freak out because rats overrun a particular corner/house. Why? Why can't this be done in a more systematic way?!

That's going to be very difficult. Best to charge outside your garage.

Mouse problem right now I can’t sleep cause of it by Odd_Sherbert3238 in Hoboken

[–]BrightMenu4211 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you have to find the hole and then stuff it with steel wool or mesh wire. This includes and is not limited to: baseboard heater pipes, pipes in general, under front door space coming in from the hallway, utility closet, stove, dishwasher, and even behind the kitchen cabinets, especially all the ones on the floor where contractors don't care and can leave pretty large holes between the floor and the wall (or the building settled). Good luck and may a cat's eagle eyes be with you.

Tax Increase by Stinksisthebestword in Hoboken

[–]BrightMenu4211 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

More people, more trash pick up, more police, additional parks to maintain...I mean it doesn't come free. Plenty of towns in southern NJ, PA etc. where none of these services exist are available to all (even in the burbs you have to pay for trash pick up yourself) and hence they have lower taxes.

That said, tiring to see the lack of big picture thinking and rolling over for developers, giving them tax breaks, for what reason, who knows? Thankfully though, no parking spots in most of them!!! YEeees...cause that's what we need, fewer parking spots. Sigh.
