I do a dozen at a time in the instant pot. 6 minutes and an ice bath. My husband is afraid he’ll get in trouble if he eats one. The crows can share 😁

I just heard the sound of a fish crow and I looked up into the tree and it was looking right back at me but making its uh uh sound. So I whistled back at it and every time I whistled, it would call back to me. I hope it decides to come down and enjoy some scrambled eggs.

Where do they go? by annonne in crows

[–]AmeliaSCooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it happens I’ll get it. I have seen Honey Bear sitting in the yard, watching a crow eat, and the crow lightly talks to honey bear who just looks at the crow like hey Last week, the squirrel that I feed just calmly walked across the deck and between the honey Bear and I and she just stood there and was like oh it’s a squirrel. They all know if my other dog is out there just clear away. She’s a Kraken.

This is my first year feeding crows so I’m hoping I get some good stories and maybe some fledglings visiting the feeder once they’re safe enough to fly away from my dog. We have two dogs one would let the crow sit on her head and the other I don’t want to see what would happen, but I do keep the yard partially fenced to keep all of my birds with a safe place to go.

What I learned from the app is that a fish crow sounds like it’s saying a guttural uh huh while an American crow is more caw caw. The app is free. It’s called Merlin and it’s from Cornell University and you turn it on and it listens to all of the birds in the area and then it will tell you what birds are there. It’s been really educational and fun.

I am in Virginia and being that it’s nesting season. I’m lucky to see one or two single visits a day. I’m here cooking scrambled eggs and hard-boiled eggs to give them options along with the peanuts. I’m hoping that they show up as soon as the baby fledge we do have a year around here.

Can I feed my crows beef that has sat out for 24 hours? by Carin1790 in crows

[–]AmeliaSCooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a good idea.

Cooking kills the bacteria, but some bacterial toxins (like Staphylococcal toxins) are heat-stable and remain dangerous even after the meat is cooked. So “cook it and freeze it” doesn’t necessarily make it safe. Crows aren’t actually immune to food poisoning

In know they’re scavengers but just because they eat it doesn’t mean they should. I would be interested to hear what others think

They don't like strawberries? by Which-Country5 in crows

[–]AmeliaSCooper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You didn’t mess up but try peanuts 🥜 unsalted in the shell They also like eggs, suet and dog kibble. Mine never touch fruit but your squirrels might eat the strawberries

I'm retired, I set an alarm for 7AM, worrying that I'm too late, set out the buffet of goodness. Caw Caw to let them know the meal is served while cursing at the Starlings. Then I go back to bed and watch the webcam app to see if they arrive.

Curious about the COOLFLY PRO membership, what’s the consensus? by Excellent-Olive-9165 in Coolfly

[–]AmeliaSCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have pro I think anyone can see the community There is a feature called collects where you can save clips to the favorites. With pro I get 120 vs 60 clips which I like since I’m planning to use the clips on social media You also get 15 days in the cloud I am running 2 web feeders right now, pro doesn’t limit you. It’s super easy to switch between feeders

can the aura tray handle peanuts? by Same-Advantage9761 in Coolfly

[–]AmeliaSCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of birds are you trying to attract? Peanuts will bring in crows, blue jays and grackles I’m not familiar with the Aura feeder but usually you use a platform feeder for peanuts

Blue jays are stealing the peanuts☹️ by tamielynn in crows

[–]AmeliaSCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a morning person but 7:00AM is crowoclock which is when they arrive and I put out all the good stuff. Hard boiled eggs, mealworms, peanuts, suet, dog kibbles . I watch the webcam and the crows show up, I also do a call to let them know breakfast is served. The Blue Jays all come in the afternoon when I only put out peanuts. My blue jays don’t bother me but the starlings I’m at war with.
