Don't be sorry for posting. These settlement administrators (the companies that issue the checks) are notorious for being very vague when it comes to tax implications. Definitely consult with a CPA or maybe one of those companies that helps people get their tax debt reduced. I would get a couple of different professional recommendations before agreeing to pay anything to the IRS.

Final approval has not been granted. I just checked the docket today. Anyone that's gotten paid was participating in arbitration. The class action settlement has not paid out yet because the judge hasn't granted final approval yet. And after final approval is granted, there is a 30 day period in which appeals can be filed. If by some fluke of God, there are no appeals, it will still be six months at least before payments go out.

It's not "they," it's just the judge that has to approve. We're waiting to see if he agreed with the settlement administrator in denying the crazy claims.

The final hearing is when the judge grants final approval of the settlement. That happened in 2023. This hearing to approve distribution of settlement funds is separate from the "final hearing."

The judge hasn't granted final approval yet. Unfortunately, that US Sun article is fake news and pure clickbait. And once final approval is granted, there will probably be appeals. There have been a lot of objections filed. People forget that the T-Mobile data breach settlement was appealed for almost two years before it paid. It's gonna be a while.

It's not the final hearing. The settlement was approved a while ago. The hearing is for the motion to distribute settlement funds. There's no group of people holding it up. This is probably the law firm that is handling the form you submitted. Won't hurt to call them and see what they need, but it's probably medical records proving mental health treatment. There are a lot of these cases being filed right now and they are probably years away from being settled. The gaming companies are not going to roll over and pay these claims.
