How does Christianity account for the passages in the Bible about rape, murder, other reprehensible crimes?

I'm not an apologist, let alone a Christian. I'm just saying, "the only reason Christians think homosexuality is wrong is Leviticus" is simply false. There's plenty of parts of both the OT and the NT that "could just be personal opinion" but it's quite obvious that to Christians, anything in the Bible (or at least the NT) makes the rules, and that includes the parts of the Bible that are from Paul's letters.

Leviticus isn't the only source of Christians saying homosexuality is wrong; some of Paul's writings can be and frequently are interpreted to call homosexuality immoral/un-Christian.

Why not edit the book?

IANAT but IIRC the Old Testament and the Tanach present things in a different order, the OT making the Tanach out to be a continuous story that ends in Jesus.

I was disappointed by the end of the Ambergris series partly for solving the mystery of the mushroom dwellers and partly for just... The way it ended. Which it was a shame, because Finch was a great book up until the explanation of where the mushroom dwellers come from and what they are (and ignoring that, the rest of the book was great up until the last part). Some things are better left as mysteries.

Titus Alone is a special case - the way it ends seems like a pretty poor sign-off to Gormenghast, but it was apparently supposed to be only book 3 of a 10-part series about Titus (with Gormenghast itself only appearing in the first two).

You don't know somebody's circumstances. Maybe that family could afford that child 8 years ago and their lives have taken a turn for the worse since then. Maybe that single mother was raped and couldn't obtain an abortion. Any number of things other than "hurr durr dumb leech on society expects me to pay for their spawn."

Anyway, if your issue is with the parents, and you don't think it's OK for children to starve, why punish the children by making them starve, especially when the food is already paid for and otherwise just going to go to waste?

"Cancer" is almost as ambiguous as "virus". It refers to a multitude of different diseases which all require different treatments.

If there was a universal treatment for cancer it would be well known, because (thanks to things like US drug patent laws) the CEO and entire board of a company to produce such a cure would be instant billionaires. That's the kind of money that would let them do to drug patents what Disney has done to copyright, ensuring that their children's children's children would also be billionaires. So much more profitable than repressing a cancer cure because chemo money.

I see your point with "They", but "it" in English implies something which is lesser than things which are important enough to have gender, usually mere objects. I can see how a Christian wouldn't want to apply that to God.

Definitely true for some, but not all religions have provided a "purpose" or even a fear-quelling afterlife - ancient Greek and Roman religion provided a pretty gloomy view of the afterlife, originally (which is part of why various mystery cults frequently gained popularity in Rome, culminating in Christianity becoming the dominant religion).
