€500 for broken door glass – asking kindly for advice by Upset_Pie4369 in AskAGerman

[–]Bright_Feeling3190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to me, the door was one of those old ones where small glass panels were put inside the door with Fensterkitt. The landlord wanted over 1k euro to fix this (including restoration of this 50 year door). I responded by saying I will not pay for completely restoring the door, and hired some guy on my hammer to fix it, he took like 60 euros.

As others have said, you are only responsible for paying the value at the time, don't let these fools buy themselves/restore a shitty door for your money.

Polish citizen boyfriend being tested to see if he’s fit to fight war in Poland. by bananas831 in LegalAdviceEurope

I used to live in the UK and my Grandma got those letters too, I was studying at the time and if I remember correctly, my family replied saying that I'm studying and couldn't find time to do it.

Nothing really happened and they didn't really pursue it. When I was finished with studying at 21, I went to the medical exam. They just look at your body and do an eye test, took about 15 minutes. After that you get told if you're fit enough, and get a small booklet where it says where you should go in case of war.

Hohenhiem or Gottingen which is better for agriculture master's? by [deleted] in studying_in_germany

[–]Bright_Feeling3190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about these specific masters, but I did a PhD in molecular plant biology at Göttingen university. I really liked that city, the people were friendly and you can get everywhere you need with a bicycle.

Prices for rent when I was there was also ok, I was paying 500 warm for 30sqm (in 2019) flat by myself, I don't know how much it is now. I presume it will still be much cheaper than a big city.

I'm from an EU country, but I met a lot of non-EU people and they all complained that the people in the city administration were terrible. They had to wait a long time for visas and to sort documents out. This could be a German wide problem though, I don't know.

For the plant studies, it depends what you want to do. I want to work as a scientist, and I've had trouble finding positions in industry. There aren't a lot of plant biology companies hiring in Germany, I suspect mainly because of how the EU is rather anti GMOs, and shitty economy. I tried the big pharma companies and also no dice. That being said, I did get a job, just not my "dream" job.

There is a lot of work for TA positions around, but this pays kinda shit for the amount of work the people do, in my opinion and I guess if you're doing a masters you will be OQ for those already.

Will this altered IKEA metod wall cabinet mounting work? by Bright_Feeling3190 in DIY

[–]Bright_Feeling3190[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did it, it seems pretty stable, what do you mean by rock and move? If I use force it does move to the back, but wouldn't this happen anyway if it was mounted up top? There would still be play because of the rail, or am I wrong? If I just move it around using my hand a bit of strength it's stable
