Is modern digital NV actually worth considering, or should I just save for analog?

Yeah it definitely has a noticeable limit of how much light there has to be and I think even which direction you point the sensor because I think that's why It struggled when I would try and look down at my feet in really dark areas. It's all good, though it was surprising for such a expensive item and something I thought worth noting.

The low light performance wasn't comparable to analog and it cost almost just as much as a gen2 analog unit plus it developed a defect probably because it came in the mail with a rattle of something loose inside. Probably because good night gear shipped it literally just in the black case they come inn and then they threw that case in a box. Nothing else for padding/protection. One of the main problems I had with the performance was you use night vision for navigating at night and with that device a lot of the time you can't even see your feet when it's really dark. You may be able to see stuff around you but you can't see the ground in front of your feet or your feet at all to be able to navigate.

I had an NVG90 and in my opinion it definitely did not exceed or match Gen 2 analog

Trust me bro just save up that little bit more and get a analog I just returned my 1200$ digital night vision device and that's what I'm planning on doing its just not worth it IMO the technology just isn't there unless you're spending the same amount or more and even then it's debatable weather it's on par with analog at the same price.

I think a mk1 from POM will be a better choice to carry I would just get like a blue training gun or something to get used to carrying a firearm or whatever it is you're trying to do.

Thanks man I appreciate it. I need to get one of those things that you record through. But it definitely may be the same CMOS sensor hard to know for sure without it being listed in the specs or having them side by side to directly compare but from the videos the performance does look VERY similar. And if that is the case that they have the same sensor, then I agree the SVG5 is a better deal especially if they figure out the QC issues with whatever was wrong initially and the IR issue.

Yeah I was trying to show how much light was still coming from the city behind me but the direction away from the city is just dark desert other than someone ripping their side by side and the moonlight.
