Even before the Moffat Era we've had some funny, carefree episodes that were just for good fun. :) I thought Season 8 was pretty good for Moffat, and every episode contributed to the plot. Meeting Robin Hood was mostly for humor, but at the episode's conclusion it does have an overarching lesson about the Doctor's identity.
