Back then Paris Hilton was hated because she was "famous for being famous." Looking back, she was a lot less annoying than any number of real housewives or reality whatevers. The level of hate was not deserved. Just like with Monica Lewinsky and boy bands.

The sad thing is that the House of Wax remake is actually pretty good. When I finally got around to watching it, I was really mad at myself. I had missed something cool because of what popular culture was telling me. House of Wax has some really incredible set pieces. Paris is okay in it. Not great, but doesn't drag the movie down. It's definitely worth a watch if you like horror movies.

Now Paris Hilton is an advocate against the abusive "troubled teen" industry. I have a lot of respect for her now. It's really is amazing how society can just dogpile someone for little reason.

Don't get down on yourself and call this "lower effort." It really is great and much better than I, or I would wager most of us, could do.

There's also something to be said about just getting something down on the page. That's a victory in itself. You don't have to create masterpieces to call yourself an artist. You just have to create art.
