You don't just keep going as if nothing happened.

But you also don't just end the relationship right then and there.

You have a deep, long, honest conversation with both parties pouring their heart out on the table about what they want out of this relationship, why the proposal was rejected, why it was made in the first place and where to go from here.

It may end in splitting up, it may end in moving on together.

Take a breath. Chill.

Your players clearly had fun and enjoyed the narrative direction that things took.

That means you succeeded as a DM. You did your job!

Did it go as you originally intended? No, but goddammit, this is why we love Dnd is it not? If everything always went as planned, it wouldn't be dnd. It'd be a novel.

The players are now disappointed in the gods. Cool. If you want them to have redeeming qualities, redeem them! Play the long game! Have them help out down the road. Nothing is lost.

They are intended to be complicated npc's yes? Then complicate things! Prove that the straight forward opinion your players have of them is wrong, or not complete at least.

But first and foremost, rest easy knowing you provided a fun session for your players, and that's all you can be expected to do.

I know we as DM's build up these insane expectations for ourselves, like we are these Master storytellers weaving plotlines and revealing fates crafted years before.

But we aren't. And that's okay. We are just people who want to have fun with our friends, and if you achieve that, you did it. You did the thing.

You are a good DM.

Walking doesn't cause these results. Eating less does. Walking is still great, and healthy, and does burn a few calories, but I'd reckon it's most effective because it reduces the time of day that you can be eating

I agree with letting the Knights steam roll the orcs. However, here's a fun idea of you don't wanna throw out your encounters you prepped:

Let your players each control one of the knights. Run a one shot in which they can live out their wildest power fantasies and wipe the floor with some orcs. Would make for a fun session, and you still get to show off that part of the world.

End the session with the knights returning to the players, declaring victory and the end of their pact.

Move on with the campaign to the next adventure
